Hi, I really hope someone joins me on this bench soon, I look like a billy n no mates lol!

As I've not read any bench threads I don't know what I'm meant to say, so ummmm, hi grin

maudlynne Wed 14-Nov-12 15:26:50

Hi Hippo

I'll join you!

I'm not sure either, have only just found this bit.

Am just waiting for school to finish. After school club today. Been trying to do some accounts all day but it's been very slow. Got a bit distracted by the real housewives in new york city then it went downhill from there.

How are you today?

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Wed 14-Nov-12 22:29:06

Thanks for joining me, it's less lonely now!

I am the Queen of getting distracted, I'm amazed I ever get anything done lol!

I'm ok today, a bit narked at the Ex but hey Ho! How are you?

So how many children do you have? I have 2 boys age 8 and 6grin

Lostinbray Thu 15-Nov-12 08:38:49

Hi I am new to the area, and to mumsnet local!

I have 2 DC's, 5 and 8.

Have you been in Berks a long time?

maudlynne Thu 15-Nov-12 09:33:45

Hi lost and morning Hippo

I've just got the one dd age 7 and we've been over the West side of Berkshire for about 6 years now.

Yes me too with getting distracted Hippo. Will try harder today.

Did you move here recently Lost? How are you finding it?

Lostinbray Thu 15-Nov-12 10:06:26

Hi maud, moved at end August, finishing work at he end of this month, and still finding my feet. It is very beautiful round here, but very different from where we lived before, and I know no-one!

What is he West side of Berkshire? Geography not my strong point!

I am working at home today, but keep checking mumsnet as I get distracted too!

ILooklikeGraceKelly Thu 15-Nov-12 10:26:16

Hi everybody,
I live in Reading and have 2 boys (6mo and 2y).
I hate the winter, Beale Park and Wellington are shut till feb. What are we going to do at the week end now?

Lostinbray Thu 15-Nov-12 10:33:02

Hi Grace,

I'm envy of your grace Kelly likeness!

I hate the winter too, am dreading being on my own from Dec in the cold and yuk!

ILooklikeGraceKelly Thu 15-Nov-12 10:38:00

<twirls>
wink

Lostinbray Thu 15-Nov-12 14:33:52

So ladies,

Any recommendations on great places to go with the kids or to meet people round here? Trying to find my feet, and everything is very spread out round here, not sure what is good.

Thanks in hope!

maudlynne Thu 15-Nov-12 14:52:05

Hi everybody and welcome Grace

So a big change for you Lost. Are you in the countryside? I'm in Newbury down the M4 a bit. Finishing work sounds nice envy.

I work from home so don't see much daylight in the winter. Summer's a bit better as we go to the park and things after school.

The school's been closed for elections so my dd and her friend are here today. They are just making a big "keep out - private" sign to keep me out of dd's bedroom.

Is Reading museum any good for dc Grace? Keep meaning to go.

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Thu 15-Nov-12 17:28:44

Ho all, wow this bench is cosy smile

I I've lived in reading forever!

My 2 love the museum Maud, we go there fairly often, and there's lots of interactive stuff for them to do.

Lostinbray Thu 15-Nov-12 18:32:18

Hi maud & Hippo, I'm in Bray, which feels very countrysidy, IYKWIM, but is right next to the M4. Feels very close to nature, including squirrels, bunnies, birds and foxes in the garden, and so different from where we used to live in the middle of a city.

Looking forward to finishing work, but is only temporary, until I find a new job unfortunately!

ILooklikeGraceKelly Thu 15-Nov-12 18:51:03

Would the museum be suitable for my 2yo?
Bray is really nice, much nicer than Redders envy
I am not sure what to advise re-meeting people round your neck of the woods. It's quite small, so maybe it might be easier to get to know the locals.

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Thu 15-Nov-12 21:13:31

I have no idea where bray is grin but out sounds lovely!

I guess it depends on the 2 year old grace I took mine there at that age, and iirc they've added more stuff for children since then. They have bags you can get in reception I think, with activities and things to look out for. Plus a whole room of stuffed animals which I hate, but the boys love!

Lostinbray Fri 16-Nov-12 16:19:00

Hi Hippo,

Bray is near Maidenhead. Haven't ventured to Reading or Newbury yet, but must have an explore.

Museum sounds good, maybe I'll take my two in the holidays.

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Fri 16-Nov-12 19:20:05

Ahh ok, I don't know that side of Berks that well.

What sort of job are you looking for?

Lostinbray Sat 17-Nov-12 10:27:21

Marketing/Brand job

Lostinbray Sat 17-Nov-12 10:28:44

Sorry posted a bit early, yes looking for a marketing type job, but a bit knackered after the year I've had so hoping for a couple of months before I go back to work.

You said your ex was annoying you, hope all sorted now.

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Sat 17-Nov-12 10:42:54

No still being a twunt, but hey Ho, I'll manage I think!

A couple of months off sounds like a good idea smile

maudlynne Sat 17-Nov-12 23:04:02

Sorry to hear that Hippo.

And thanks for the info on the museum. We'll give it a go next time we go to Reading.

Sounds like a couple of months off would be good Lost. I've never been over Maidenhead way at all - seems really silly when it's only down the road. I only know of Bray because a couple of friends have been to the Fat Duck.

Have been trying to watch the Killing but have no clue what's gone on. Will have to watch it again on iplayer I think. Oh dear DH has now found football. Must be time for bed smile.

Hi ladies - sorry to butt in...local editor for MN Berkshire here. We are looking for people to be local ambassadors for us across the county -- would involve organising meet-ups with other likeminded MNers in your area. You would get your own page on the site to publicise these (see top tabs - local Meet Ups) and we are working to get incentives for ambassadors such as money off deals with local cafes, restaurants and attractions. You also get a special MN card that you can use to negotiate treats for yourself (ie free coffee for you when you organise a meet-up in a local cafe etc). Anyone interested?

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Sun 18-Nov-12 16:31:47

I might be interested smile

BerkshireMel Sun 18-Nov-12 18:01:00

ooh great - where abouts in reading are you?

HippoInAtutuAndTapShoes Sun 18-Nov-12 22:16:41

East reading smile
