Meet up anyone?

(167 Posts)

Just that really.
After seeing so many Cambridge folk in one place on the hotel thread I thought it'd be nice to try and have a meet up.

So sign up here!

NewtoCambridge Sun 14-Jul-13 10:33:14

I'm in. I work full time so evenings and weekends best. Could do lunchtime if it was near work (central Cambridge )

SkinnyLegsAndAll Sun 14-Jul-13 10:43:43

I'd be up for it. Have a small baby so always looking for things to do! We're in central Cambridge.

I vote for a loooooooong wine filled lunch.

mynameisnt Sun 14-Jul-13 14:11:27

I'm am so ashamed blush I am supposed to be the local ambassador and do these, but life has got in the way sad I's up for it too though, if I can be forgiven..

Aw don't be ashamed myname! I've never been to a meet up, I didn't realised there were people in place to sort them out!
I'm usually free Mondays Thursdays and Fridays during the day but also evenings (for booze smile).

SkinnyLegsAndAll Sun 14-Jul-13 18:49:58

I've not been to a meet up either. And had no idea there are actual ambassadors!
Any if those days work for me. As do evenings. (And either for booze wink)

mynameisnt Sun 14-Jul-13 19:00:44

<cheers up> evening would be nice I reckon - ice breaking type booze things grin

Josieposiepuddingandpie Sun 14-Jul-13 19:23:35

I'm in, I work mon-wed and have DS in tow thurs & Fri, but free evenings and weekends too.

SkinnyLegsAndAll Sun 14-Jul-13 20:17:14

How old is your DS Josie?

MarronGlace Sun 14-Jul-13 20:24:39

I'm in too!

Will we all wear a flower in our hair or something that we know grin

I mean I'm happy to talk to strangers on the internet but I don't want to be smiling awkwardly at strange women in bars..

mynameisnt Sun 14-Jul-13 21:51:20

ha ha - when I met up with some Cambridge mn-ers to go running, I wore red trousers, everyone came in and asked cautiously 'are they RED trousers?'

NewtoCambridge Sun 14-Jul-13 21:53:14

Don't we just need Boden and a MN scarf? grin

Josieposiepuddingandpie Sun 14-Jul-13 22:00:28

DS is 2 and currently learning all about saying "NO!" grin

Josieposiepuddingandpie Sun 14-Jul-13 22:01:27

We could get MN stickers or badges maybe?

My DS is 2 too Josie. No is is absolute favourite word!

Josieposiepuddingandpie Sun 14-Jul-13 22:56:30

Someone said to me the other day "have you tried giving him choices about what order to get ready for bed in?" I gave it a go with teeth or nappy first "NO! No teeth, no nappy mummy, down stairs, play trains!" He knows his mind my son grin

GinAndIt Sun 14-Jul-13 22:57:10

Boozy evening sounds good wink

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 15-Jul-13 13:02:34

We could all bring packets of PomBears...and use the pass phrase "Are you a friend of Justine?" <taps nose knowingly>

My DS (5 months) doesn't actually speak the word 'no' yet, but he grunts a good variation!

Was wondering how the running group is going myname - would like to attempt joining you once the heat has retreated.

mynameisnt Mon 15-Jul-13 14:35:08

sadly, we all did the first run together, but then my knee 'went' for two weeks sad so I dropped out - I know another lady who is a mum at my dd's school (that's Cambridge for you!) is still at it and I have started myself - up to week 5 now (although have been actually doing it for 7 weeks blush), Really enjoying it though!

Shall I just straight in and suggest Friday 2nd August in the evening for a meet up?

GinAndIt Mon 15-Jul-13 15:49:30

sounds good to mesmile is it weird to be meeting complete strangers for the first time in a pub?

mynameisnt Mon 15-Jul-13 16:40:47

sounds possible for me !

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 15-Jul-13 17:44:26

Sadly, I will be out of the country through the 4th. Anytime after that works for me though, so if I miss the first meet up then you must promise me another one even if you all hate each other. I haven't lived in CB very long and it would be nice to meet more locals.

If we do do it on the 2nd Skinnylegs would you be able to come?

Shush Gin, the pub is the obvious answer wink what kids?

GinAndIt Mon 15-Jul-13 18:37:41

grin oh I agree, the pub is definitely the way to go!

Oooh sorry Skinnylegs just reread your post, you're out of the country until the 4th? We could do it after that? Maybe the Friday after, the 9th?

NewtoCambridge Mon 15-Jul-13 19:32:03

Should work for me, may even mean I'm going out an unprecedented 3 Fridays in a row

NewtoCambridge Mon 15-Jul-13 19:33:20

Sorry missed the second page, 2nd or 9th works for me i have no life

GinAndIt Mon 15-Jul-13 19:33:39

oh bugger can't make the 9th sad

What about the 10th?

MarronGlace Mon 15-Jul-13 20:53:12

I'm away for most ofAugust but would love to meet up if decide to do it again at some other time

mynameisnt Mon 15-Jul-13 20:56:30

any date good for me before the 23rd grin

NewtoCambridge Mon 15-Jul-13 20:57:35

How about we got for the 2nd and then another in September given how many people will be away for school holidays

That's a good idea smile

GinAndIt Mon 15-Jul-13 21:10:27

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 15-Jul-13 22:51:12

Sorry, my post was confusing - yes, I will be out of town until the 4th.

August 9th or 10th would work for me but so would a second meet up in September if everyone else is good for the 2nd. <jealous>

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 15-Jul-13 22:52:36

And the pub is definitely the answer.

Now, which one?

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 15-Jul-13 22:54:26

And can I put in an early request for the September date? Can we do Friday the 13th?

Ooooo Friday 13th spooooky grin

mynameisnt Tue 16-Jul-13 10:46:12

where's that? <too old for city centre pubs>

GinAndIt Tue 16-Jul-13 12:27:43

Ha! I was going to ask the same thing mynameisn't !

<old gimmer>

It used to be B-Bar, to the side of TKmaxx

GinAndIt Tue 16-Jul-13 19:21:39

oh yes I know the one, it's really nice. good choice!

theA14 Wed 17-Jul-13 19:05:49

Hello, I'd like to come along on the 2nd of August, please if I may.

theA14 Wed 17-Jul-13 19:08:20

Oh I forgot about my local board identity name! I'm also known as Auntie Bulgaria in big Mumsnet, in case I've chatted to anyone in local pre name-change. smile

The more the merrier! I'm really looking forward to this now smile

mynameisnt Sun 21-Jul-13 10:14:58

catching up to say I'm up for it still grin

SkinnyLegsAndAll Mon 22-Jul-13 15:36:58

<jealous> !

Me too! grin

GinAndIt Mon 22-Jul-13 20:54:56

and me grin we need to decide on a time <bossy>

ExP is possibly going away for work that week now hmm so I'll have to doubly check I can come now. I'll start roping babysitters in now grin

I said 'now' a lot in that last post.. Soz.

NekoKutsu Fri 26-Jul-13 17:18:29

A regular meet-up would be nice - I'm not here on 2nd Aug unfortunately but would love to come to a meet-up

mynameisnt Mon 29-Jul-13 08:57:03

Just tell me when and where and I'll be there!

GinAndIt Mon 29-Jul-13 12:14:07

are we still meeting up this friday night?

NewtoCambridge Mon 29-Jul-13 19:32:44

I"m still in

MarronGlace Mon 29-Jul-13 19:58:56

I might be able to make it. Can someone PM me the details please? smile

theA14 Mon 29-Jul-13 20:49:56

Baroosh, 8pm Friday 2nd.
Is that right / ok time?

I can post in main chat too if people want?

ThroughGrittedTeeth - do you think you can make it?

I'm just waiting to hear about a babysitter. Fingers crossed I'd really love to go!

primrosa Tue 30-Jul-13 19:42:45

Hi there
I'm moving to Cambridge in September and would love to join one of your meet ups when we eventually move over. It's a big move for us and I don't know anyone, so this sounds like a perfect place to start smile

mynameisnt Tue 30-Jul-13 19:46:09

Hopefully will be there - but it's 'town' and scary sad Where is it again??

mynameisnt Tue 30-Jul-13 19:46:49

I will be cycling from cherry hinton way if anyone else is out that way and wants to do so - or share a taxi?

mynameisnt Tue 30-Jul-13 19:47:34

Hi Primrosa grin welcome! Do you run??

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 20:25:38

Mynameisnt - it's round the back of Karen Millen / TK Maxx

primrosa Tue 30-Jul-13 20:26:50

Hi Mynameisnt
Yes! Kind of... I did run a marathon... slowly... before children, but, more recently it's been poor attempts at 10km and this year... just a 5km, but I do enjoy it... and wish I found time to do it more. Definitely something I'd like to take up more when we move...

Still blummin waiting to hear back..

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 21:21:50

Hello - I will reserve a table at Baroosh. It doesn't commit us to anything in food or drink terms but it means getting a seat which is sadly important to me these days. It also means I could bring a discreet MN sign :-)

I think by the latest count we have;

and possibly MarronGlace

Skinnylegsandall and NejoJutsu for the next one
JosiePosiePUddingandPie has disappeared since the beginning of the thread.

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 21:24:12

Actually, having said it doesn't commit us to anything, it looks quite like a dinner table booking form - anyone likely to want to eat?

mynameisnt Tue 30-Jul-13 21:25:40

I shouldn't think I will eat..perhaps we could order a bowl of chips between us grin

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 21:27:28

Sorry NekoKutsu - mangled the typing of your name there somewhat.

I don't think I will eat dinner but will happily share chips grin

NewtoCambridge Tue 30-Jul-13 21:45:37

I don't think I've ever said no to chips

MarronGlace Tue 30-Jul-13 21:48:11

Wouldn't it be funny if someone found their neighbour or colleague at the meet up? smile

I was thinking just that Marron. I suspect someone I know from NCT is a MNer and I wondered if she would turn up.

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 22:03:36

There was a thread around about last April or May when lots of Cambridge/shire types signed in. I recognised and was recognised by one person from their description of their family/location. (I have since completely forgotten their user name - honest.)

That thread culminated in an almighty 3 person meet up in Milton Country Park and a trip to the Early Night Club with another 3 people.

Throughgrittedteeth - you were on the Milton meet up thread I think.

Ditto NewtoCambridge grin

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 22:09:15

On the basis of 1 bowl of chips, 6 forks, I've booked a table for 8pm - I hope that's ok with everyone.

Should we post the meet up on main chat too?

ooooh yes I was! But I couldn't make it in the end. I did go to the Early Night Club with my NCT friends, but didn't mention it on here. I don't think it was me that recognised you A14..
I am quite intrigued though, I've lived in Cambridge most of my life so meeting new people is exciting!

Yeah pop it in chat too smile

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 22:18:43

Throughgrittedteeth - don't worry, we haven't met before, as far as I know! It was theFowlandthePussycat in: this thread

Oh yes, the thread where I told everyone where I work hmm grin

theA14 Tue 30-Jul-13 22:33:23

Ooh, (goes back through old thread) I bought something from that place just a couple of weeks ago. I remembered a MNetter worked there, so I was all beady eyed but I couldn't figure out if it was anyone who I encountered when I went in.

So in rambling conclusion, there's a possibility I've met you!

oooo I wonder if it was me who served you?!

GinAndIt Wed 31-Jul-13 13:23:33

so whats everyone wearing then? and how will we recognise each other? shall I bring a fruitshoot and some pom bears with me? grin

theA14 Wed 31-Jul-13 17:12:19

I have glasses, a plum/burgundy coloured dress and a purple handbag.

I could also ring Baroosh and get the table booking changed from my name to a name we agree - then you can ask for the 'gina ford' party or the 'justine' table when you arrive?

NewtoCambridge Wed 31-Jul-13 17:57:08

No idea what I'm wearing. Also wondering if I know any of you, but given how few people I know in Cambridge it's unlikely.

GinAndIt Wed 31-Jul-13 19:23:36

thats a good idea theA14 !

Great idea A14! I think the Justine table is a good one.
I'm not sure what I'll wear yet, I will have a little look at my threads now and try to decide grin

By threads I mean clothes.. Not, ya know threads grin <consults S&B pages>

I'll probably be wearing a light blue dress. In case anyone cares was wondering grin

mynameisnt Fri 02-Aug-13 11:27:27

I don't think I'll make it tonight sad Basically it's money, and distance and being tired and rubbish things like that. Can we do another one later as well??

MarronGlace Fri 02-Aug-13 11:35:21

I'll be wearing a colourful Desigual skirt and beige cotton jumper and I'm overweight grin

Aw that's a shame myname! I think we said up thread about one in September so you should definitely try and come to that! If you want to meet on a week day though send me a pm and we can sort something out smile

theA14 Fri 02-Aug-13 16:19:08

Hello, sorry we won't see you mynameisnt. I've changed the table name to 'justine' and it'll be in the top bar.

GinAndIt Fri 02-Aug-13 17:17:17

I'll be wearing a black vest top and jeans. looking forward to meeting everyone! grin

mynameisnt Fri 02-Aug-13 18:37:32

Have a fab night everyone. I'm going to relax in front of Corrie! Def September though smile

NewtoCambridge Fri 02-Aug-13 19:13:42

Might be there a bit early if anyone else is around

theA14 Sat 03-Aug-13 00:07:48

Top night ladies!

What a lovely evening smile next time I'll get on the wine and talk at you all. Gives you something to look forward to grin

Can I just add that one of the best things about last night was being with boozy like minded people and not having to play down my obsession with MN grin

GinAndIt Sat 03-Aug-13 08:56:42

exactly * throughgrittedteeth * ! had a really fun time grin

now where did I put the alka seltzer?!

mynameisnt Sat 03-Aug-13 09:11:28

awww - glad you all had a good time!

theA14 Sat 03-Aug-13 18:35:46

For sone reason I chose to stay up until 1am when I got in. I managed the library and a swim with DD this morning (after a 10am lie-in, thank you DH) but she's had a lot of iPad time this afternoon as I loll about, thinking about how much the lawn needs mowing.

NewtoCambridge Sat 03-Aug-13 21:33:05

It was really great to meet everyone. Have to say I did feel a bit rough this morning

NekoKutsu Sun 04-Aug-13 17:15:03

I look forward to the September meetup now - sorry I missed it

theA14 Mon 05-Aug-13 11:51:54

Skinnylegsandall put in an early vote for September 13th for the next meet up. How does that work for everyone?

Good for me (I think!) smile

NekoKutsu Mon 05-Aug-13 12:50:27

I think 13th September is good for me

GinAndIt Mon 05-Aug-13 13:49:09

should be fine for me. I won't drink as much this time wink

mynameisnt Mon 05-Aug-13 14:14:02

That sounds good to me! Whereabouts this time??

primrosa Mon 05-Aug-13 19:03:57

Yay, I will have moved over by then and should be able to come along too! It will be our first week so probably a busy one, but might need a night out by the end of it!! grin

NewtoCambridge Mon 05-Aug-13 22:23:29

Think I will have to let you know nearer the time, it's DD's first week at school so I want to see how she's got on.

If things go to plan DD will be starting ballet lessons on the Saturday morning, so can't be hungover smile

SkinnyLegsAndAll Sat 10-Aug-13 18:28:07

So glad to hear you all had a boozylovely time! Looking forward to another round on the 13th.

CambridgeNewbie Sun 18-Aug-13 22:27:21

We're moving to Cambridge next week so would love to tag along on the 13th.

Oh yes come along! The more the merrier smile

Oh and welcome to Cambridge!

CambridgeNewbie Mon 19-Aug-13 07:57:12

Thank you grin

NewtoCambridge Tue 20-Aug-13 10:07:22

Welcome to Cambridge, I should change my name really! I realised yesterday I'd been here 11 months now smile

CambridgeNewbie Tue 20-Aug-13 16:34:33

Apologies New, I hadn't seen your nickname until after I'd posted!

mynameisnt Wed 21-Aug-13 14:38:49

I will definitely come this time smile

GinAndIt Sun 01-Sep-13 19:00:55

are we still on for the 13th?

I definitely am, really looking forward to it smile

GinAndIt Mon 02-Sep-13 09:46:39

Throughgrittedteeth I've seen your lovely sewing creations on facebook and i'm hoping you can advise me what to start sewing. i bought my first sewing machine a couple of months ago and went on a 1 day course but haven't really used it since! Am thinking cushion covers to start with, they look fairly easy!

Oh how exciting!! It'll be nice to have someone to bore talk to about sewing!

I've got a book I'll lend you for cushions if you like? Shows you all the different types you can make.

GinAndIt Mon 02-Sep-13 11:57:02

oh that would be good thanks grin

theA14 Mon 02-Sep-13 21:08:13

Are we going to stick with Baroosh? As we pretty much had the run of the bar to begin with, I think it's a good option.

I have a big ticket London hen night on Saturday night so will try not too drink quite as much this time. Ha.

NewtoCambridge Mon 02-Sep-13 21:41:21

Well it looks like there is another work night out that night, so might bump into all them again!

CambridgeNewbie Fri 06-Sep-13 22:19:49

Not been to baroosh before but DH can point me in the right direction! Looks nice.

Getting ahead of myself but on the 24th of next month the early night club is on if anyone fancies it?

Back to Friday, are we saying 8pm at Baroosh?

GinAndIt Thu 12-Sep-13 13:48:12

yep can't decide whether to bus it and drink or drive....

DRINK! I will be wink

GinAndIt Thu 12-Sep-13 18:03:08

bus it is then grin

SkinnyLegsAndAll Thu 12-Sep-13 18:14:05

Bus. Definitely. Luckily I'm just a short wobble walk away.

8.00 is good for me - might not make it until 8.30, depending on how the wee one goes down for the night. (He's 7 mnths and primarily BF)

SkinnyLegsAndAll Thu 12-Sep-13 18:15:56

how will I recognise you all?

theA14 Thu 12-Sep-13 19:30:38

Last time we were pretty much the only people out at 8pm on a Friday night in Baroosh! We met on the mezzanine floor so could try that again.

I have an Early Night Club ticket Throughgrittedteeth.

SkinnyLegsAndAll Thu 12-Sep-13 21:01:11

What in god's name is an Early Night Club ticket? Is this a place that I actually have to pay entrance for? In Cambridge?!

Oh no that was what I suggested for next month skinny. Baroosh is free don't worry. I can wear a posy in my hair if it helps? wink

I just posted but it's disappeared..

It looks like I'll be driving now, despite all my encouragement about drinking.
I do have work tomorrow so I suppose I should be good but booo I'm quite sad.

CambridgeNewbie Fri 13-Sep-13 16:25:24

See you guys there : )

I'll be the one looking anxious trying to figure out who you all are!

PS will be driving too unfortunately.

SkinnyLegsAndAll Fri 13-Sep-13 17:09:45

Oh dear. I am one exhausted woman. The wee one has had a terribly fractious 24 hours - the curséd teething! He's finally (finally!) asleep, but I'll need to see how the next few hours go.

Please forgive me if I don't make it out this evening.

So it's
Cambridgenewbie any other takers or anyone I've missed?

Newtocambridge how did your DD get on at school? Are you coming tonight?

Oh and mynameisnt smile

Oh no Skinny sad poor wee one. I hope you can make it, if not don't worry we can rally the troops for next month. brewthanks

GinAndIt Fri 13-Sep-13 19:35:19

shall we sit upstairs again then? bleddy rain!

GinAndIt Fri 13-Sep-13 20:01:37

bit busier tonight! I'm on the mezzanine grin

GinAndIt Sat 14-Sep-13 10:08:08

lovely to meet up again last night and thanks again for the lift home Throughgrittedteeth smile

theA14 Sat 14-Sep-13 10:31:40

You are all lovely and fascinating as I had a great evening and only drank one pint!

Disclaimer: if on subsequent meets I am back on the wine, this is not a suggestion you have become less lovely.

Skinnylegs - hope to meet you next time. You missed conversational threads on how easy it is to end up living next to drug dealers and how to get the birth plan you want - I vote for GinandIt becoming a birth advocate for women in labour as she brooks no argument. grin

GinAndIt Sat 14-Sep-13 11:46:00

CambridgeNewbie Sat 14-Sep-13 21:12:45

Hehe a good summary of our random conversations! Definitely a good night, looking forward to the next one! X

NewtoCambridge Sun 15-Sep-13 14:15:00

Sorry I couldn't make this one, let me know when the next one is

mynameisnt Mon 16-Sep-13 09:23:58

I am so sorry - I just completely forgot!

CambridgeNewbie Wed 18-Sep-13 21:37:04

No worries. I nearly completely forgot too - it was only when DH walked in and asked what time I was going out!

NekoKutsu Sun 22-Sep-13 13:12:58

I was unable to - just completely exhausted from work and ... wanted to ask - are pregnant MNers welcome too?

GinAndIt Mon 23-Sep-13 15:55:45

of course they are! well, unless you're 40 weeks and could pop at any moment. probably best to chill out at home if that's the case grin

theA14 Tue 24-Sep-13 22:23:12

Half term night out? Friday November 1st?

I wondered about The Maypole?

Oh yes! I like the maypole too. Good thinking A14 smile

CentralCambridge Wed 25-Sep-13 15:13:53

Hi Ladies,
Sounds like you had fun meeting up and next time I would like to join you too for a drink too - we haven't been in Cambridge for long either. thanks

theA14 Wed 25-Sep-13 20:28:14

Hooray, all are welcome. I have started a new thread, if people want to say they are thinking of coming along.

theA14 Fri 25-Oct-13 11:32:07

Just in case anyone's not seen it, we are having a meet up at Cambridge Brewhouse at 8pm on Friday 1st November. Everyone is welcome.
