This summer the Waterside Arts Centre in Sale, Greater Manchester premieres a Family Festival
of children’s theatre and performance workshops in comedy, dance and circus skills for 0 – 16
year olds, along with films, arts and crafts during the last week of July.
Opening on Saturday 23 July, Waterside are delighted to be partnering local community arts
group Two by Two with their launch party of Sale Art Zoo – an exhibition and safari trail of lifesized
animal sculptures and zoo-themed events.
Families can join the fun on Waterside Plaza from 11am with craft activities both in and outside
the arts centre, theatre performances, a children’s choir, party games, goodie bags and a
vintage tea and cake catering van (charges apply for some activities).
The Festival will focus around children’s theatre shows – offering something for all age groups:
The Adventures of Pom for 0 – 4 year olds (Sun 24 Jul 11am & 1pm) – where babies and toddlers
can explore the sensory world of Spring through storytelling and music; The Boggle (Sat 23 Jul
11.30am & 2.30pm) - an adventure with a mischievous and strange creature, The House at the
Edge of the Universe (Wed 27 – Fri 29 Jul 11.30am & 2.30pm) – a journey through space to
deliver a mysterious package, and Bad Guys – a comic misadventure (Sat 30 Jul 2.30pm) – for 4
years and up; and for the over 11s Boy Meets Girl will be on the Plaza – a journey through the
joy, hope and heartbreak of looking for love (Sat 30 Jul 11am, 1pm and 4pm).
Families can also take part in workshops connected to the performances of The Boggle (Sat 23
Jul 1pm & 4pm) and The House at the Edge of the Universe (Thu 28 Jul, 4pm, Free), as well as
joining workshops in comedy improvisation with Waterside regulars ComedySportz (7 years +,
Mon 25 & Tue 26 Jul 10am – 12pm & 1 – 3pm) or in Circus Skills (Wed 27 Jul 10am & 1pm) or
Dance (Thu 28 Jul 10am & 1pm). Workshops can be booked in advance or on the day (subject
to availability) and are for all age groups (unless stated otherwise).

Films will be screened on Friday 29 July at 10am and 1pm (see website for details) and families
can take part in arts and crafts on Saturday 23 July from 10am - 12noon - £2 for non-Family Club
members and just 50p for Family Club members.
Waterside are offering families who book for 3 or more events at the Festival a free Family Club
Membership entitling them to discounted theatre tickets throughout the year, invitations to
exclusive events and half price entry to Family Club on Saturdays.
