TeaAndTunnocks Wed 07-Nov-12 20:33:37

Settle in with me this cold and blustery November evening for... what else? Tea and tunnocks.

Although, if you prefer wine then I am happy to join you for a glass or two

How many Dundee based MNetters do we have then? And who would be interested in joining in the MumsnetDundee site, sharing tips and ideas, recommending child friendly cafes and restaurants (and great places to escape the DC for an evening).

The wind is whistling through the local site like a gale down the Hilltown. It would be great to fill it with fun events and perhaps the odd meet-up.

You can keep up with MumsnetDundee on Twitter and Facebook

TeaAndTunnocks Thu 08-Nov-12 19:51:23

Come and have a look at the new local pages and add some content.

What do you like to do? Any great tips for other MNetters?

I am your local editor, and we hope to make MNDundee a really busy marketplace for MNetters in Dundee. Find places to go, businesses that are tried and tested by other MNetters, get discount on goods in local stores...

TeaAndTunnocks Thu 08-Nov-12 21:52:32

<eats all the Tunnocks>

Check out the Local Site for tips on what to do with your DC, such as the Broughty Ferry Library kids reading group.

We are looking for Local Ambassadors, who organise local meetups and help fill the local site with great content.

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 13-Nov-12 14:37:24

<eats Tunnocks Brownies>

Not going to share the Tunnocks Brownies with anyone unless someone posts on this thread.

MuirheadMafia Tue 13-Nov-12 15:25:18

Tunnocks BROWNIES you say....??

MuirheadMafia Tue 13-Nov-12 15:28:29

Am at work now, will be back later this evening all being well to have a proper look round the site...

<steals Tunnocks and runs away>

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 13-Nov-12 15:44:32

Hurrah. Am sending you Tunnocks Brownies as a reward for being first poster on the Local Site wink

They are not available in the shops but I have a local drug dealer supplier.

Seriously. My colleagues are in a choc coma this afternoon and I have strict instructions not to bring any more baked goods into work.

Errolite Tue 13-Nov-12 20:06:45

Hello, I'm living in Errol at the moment, so in close enough proximity to Dundee!

Brownies sound grand.....

MuirheadMafia Tue 13-Nov-12 21:07:42

I soooo want to try a Tunnocks brownie. You can send your baked goods to Muirhead if you like wink

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 13-Nov-12 22:13:18

Hello Errolite - how are you today?

Brownies are quite delish.

You have reminded me to add the Errol Car Boot Sale to the listings. If anyone can think of anything else that you would recommend in the area, please add them. I have only recently returned to the city, so looking for new ideas.

I hope that the local site will grow in popularity. It will be good to find local recommendations.

We hope to have offers from local businesses - am working on that right now.

ClaireinDundee Wed 14-Nov-12 10:25:02

Hello! I'm in Dundee, I have popped over to see the new local, I must try and spend more time over here getting to know the locals smile

TheSqueakyGeek Wed 14-Nov-12 20:19:33

Hey, Im in Dundee smile Up near Balgay Hill. Will also try to spend more time here! Promise!

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 14-Nov-12 20:29:42

oooh, lovely. New people.

Do let me know if there is anything you are hoping to find here. And fill up the local pages with your tips and events. Add your event here

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 14-Nov-12 20:33:12
Errolite Wed 14-Nov-12 22:01:59

Evening all, thanks for the hello I'm good, baby is sleeping grin

Fiferclosetodundee Wed 14-Nov-12 22:05:27

Great idea - I'd like to recommend Jessie's kitchen I the Ferry.

TeaAndTunnocks Thu 15-Nov-12 17:17:05

I have been meaning to get out to Jessie's Kitchen. Am heading out that way tomorrow, so I will pop in and have some brownies

Fiferclosetodundee Thu 15-Nov-12 23:28:21

you won't be disappointed T&T - I believe they do amazing tunnocks brownies which I suspect might be right up your street ;)

MuirheadMafia Fri 16-Nov-12 10:36:52

Morning all! Bit of a dreich one today, eh? Am child-free for the morning so I'm planning to do some serious MNing and FB stalking tidying up grin

TeaAndTunnocks Fri 16-Nov-12 15:12:03

Had a lovely lunch at Jessie's Kitchen - definitely one to recommend. Can't believe it's taken me this long to try it out.

Also arranged a craft night - make Xmas deco. Will put up a listing with info when I get home. Would you please all share. We have decided on byob so should be good fun.

Pehsandbridies Fri 16-Nov-12 17:59:19

Hello, another Dundonian here, ferryite by birth. I have ordered rolo brownies from Kitschnbake (who make the Jessies Kitchen brownies).

Eats tunnocks snowball

Pehsandbridies Fri 16-Nov-12 18:02:03

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Errolite Sat 17-Nov-12 19:11:38

Tea, craft night sounds good smile

TeaAndTunnocks Sat 17-Nov-12 19:50:52

I'll put the listing up now, Errolite. Didn't get around to it earlier.

Was busy scrubbing the kitchen. Am feeling virtuous and happy now.

TeaAndTunnocks Sat 17-Nov-12 22:05:51

Here we are

could you email, or PM me if you would like to come along. Feel free to bring someone with you.

TeaAndTunnocks Sat 17-Nov-12 22:08:21

Hi Pehs. Nice to see you here. ROLO brownies? How decadent.

Loving all the Dundee based names, btw.

DeaconessBlue Sat 17-Nov-12 22:57:41

Hi all
I love the idea of a local get together (virtual or otherwise!)! And the mere mention of a Tunnocks brownie is enough to get me on board with anything....
I would love to come to the craft night but not sure if I can - too many kids, not enough friends/family willing to babysit! Will let you know if this changes.
Will definitely be hanging out here more often now though x

TeaAndTunnocks Sat 17-Nov-12 23:03:11

Lovely to see more and more Dundonians popping up.

Great name, DeaconessBlue - I heard them being interviewed recently on local radio.

We will be organising local daytime meetups too, if you can't make it to the Craft Meetup. With DC, or without (depending on how old your DC are)

I was in Jessie's Kitchen this week, and they have a fab room with loads of toys - we could meet there sometime.

Pehsandbridies Sun 18-Nov-12 11:17:07

What level of craftiness do you have to have to attend the night? I would love to be Kirstie Allcroft but I am more like an enthusiastic brownie!

TeaAndTunnocks Sun 18-Nov-12 12:18:24

I am useless at craft stuff so I'd say Brownie level would be sufficient.

We thought it would be fun to do this rather than just meeting in a pub.

floofyapogo Sun 18-Nov-12 12:21:40

Where's Jessie's kitchen?

TeaAndTunnocks Sun 18-Nov-12 12:25:48

In the Ferry, Floofy. Do you know where the Turriff's Nurseries is situated?

floofyapogo Sun 18-Nov-12 12:35:31

I have to admit I'm in not in Dundee! I'm in between there and Aberdeen, moved here a few years ago, but absolutely hate Aberdeen so tend to come to Dundee for shopping etc as everyone is friendlier and it just seems more . . . more everything really. grin

TeaAndTunnocks Sun 18-Nov-12 16:01:02

That's alright, Floofy. The more the merrier in Dundee. Not sure if Aberdeen has a local editor yet.

Pehsandbridies Tue 20-Nov-12 18:10:38

I have emailed about the craft night, is anyone else going? Will i get an email back confirming>

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 20-Nov-12 18:49:31

Sorry, just noticed the emails - having a few issues with my phone it seems. I've replied - we have 3 people signed up with at least one other person interested but not yet officially registered.

DixieDust Wed 21-Nov-12 13:06:55

Afternoon all. I am across the water but frequent Dundee each and every day for various reasons. Jessie's is indeed lovely as is their baking <bliss>

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 21-Nov-12 14:18:31

Hello DixieDust. Good to have you among us. Did you see the Craft Meet up?

DixieDust Wed 21-Nov-12 16:06:20

ooh link please smile

SparklesInTheFerry Wed 21-Nov-12 16:13:05

Helllooooooooooo! Betcha can't guess where I am!grin

Irnbrumakesitallok Wed 21-Nov-12 16:13:17

Afternoon, another Dundonian here - adopted Dundonian though, am I still allowed in?

Irnbrumakesitallok Wed 21-Nov-12 16:15:07

Ferry by any chance Sparkles?? wild guess. Take it you'll be at the grand switching on of the Ferry lights tomorrow??

SparklesInTheFerry Wed 21-Nov-12 16:17:18

I certainly will be-with bells on! My niece is one of the winners in the poster competition for the switch on, so I'll be there to see her get her prize!

Irnbrumakesitallok Wed 21-Nov-12 16:19:39

We'll be there too - sucker for anything that has the remotest chance of a free mince pie and DDs are looking forward to Gillies window....

WrongSideoftheBridge Wed 21-Nov-12 20:18:45

I'm in Tayport since defecting from Dundee a few years ago, but I guess I still count smile

I like the idea of a meet up but I am rubbish at craft stuff. Will you all laugh at me?

Pehsandbridies Wed 21-Nov-12 21:15:45

I too am quite rubbish, I will be laughing but only at myself.

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 21-Nov-12 22:09:14

ooh, lovely to see so many new posters here.

Have you all stalked us on FB?

The Fife site will be up and running soon, but those over in Tayport / Wormit area are welcome to join in the Dundee stuff too, since they are nearer to us.

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 21-Nov-12 22:15:38

If you know any businesses who'd like to add to our listings, please pass this on

We are also looking for companies who would like to offer great deals to MNetters for a small fee. If you know anyone who might be interested, do pass this info on

It is great for small businesses, and great for MNetters.

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 21-Nov-12 22:16:29

I am crap at crafts, but am going for the laughs and the pombears

WrongSideoftheBridge Thu 22-Nov-12 15:17:51

Just realised the meet is the same night my husband is away for work. Arg.

Will double check with him later but how annoying! Boo. Down with work, I say.

<much better to be at home with snuffly baby>

MuirheadMafia Mon 03-Dec-12 21:44:01

Brrrr, how COLD is it?? Up here in the north of the city 'tis brass monkeys. We had about an inch of snow this morning too shock

Am also hoping to come along on Wednesday, although I've officially given up on crafts after an ill-fated recent attempt to revive my knitting skills grin

TeaAndTunnocks Mon 03-Dec-12 21:44:24

Just a wee reminder that the Xmas Craft Meet Up is this week. Don't forget to sign up.

TeaAndTunnocks Mon 03-Dec-12 21:45:44

Doh link

It is really cold tonight. I have had to shift my desk away from the windows as my feet were like blocks of ice. I am now huddled up next to the radiator.

It was either shift the desk of buy a onesie shock

MuirheadMafia Mon 03-Dec-12 21:47:01

Oh, and I forgot the reason I actually popped onto the thread - to say I've posted a wee review of Verdant Works!

I don't want to blow my own horn, but I managed to be quite a Good Mummy during the recent inservice days - actually took them out and about instead of parking them in front of Disney for three days wink

TeaAndTunnocks Mon 03-Dec-12 21:52:09

I have just tweeted it. Looks like it was an interesting trip. Would you say it was more suited for adults and older DC then?

[gold star] for taking the DC to educational places during days off school. I do hope they have talked to their school teachers about it.

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 04-Dec-12 11:47:46

Morning all.

Did you all see the thread about Local Ambassadors - we need one for as many areas as possible and there will be great perks for you.

Jessie's Kitchen have already indicated that they'd be kind to our LA for B Ferry <dangles bait>

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 05-Dec-12 07:41:49

Morning. Do we have a head count of those coming to the meet up tonight?

Errolite Wed 05-Dec-12 10:57:04

Me I think, although I don't know anyone so be kind!

TeaAndTunnocks Wed 05-Dec-12 11:15:10

We are all strangers, errol so don't worry about that.

If anyone is worried that they don't know anyone or that we are all pals - we aren't. I know some of the MNetters in the area but not all who are coming tonight

And that's what it's all about. Meeting with other people in the area.

I don't know about you guys, but I've found that I don't have a lot in common with some of my old friends and its difficult to meet new people.

TeaAndTunnocks Thu 06-Dec-12 10:21:56

Morning all. Was really lovely to meet you last night. Were your families impressed by your work?

I've had the joiner in this morning to talk walls and doors and floors. Not to mention windows.

What are you all up to today?

Pehsandbridies Fri 07-Dec-12 20:54:08

DH put our wee plastic tree up today and my felt heart takes pride of place on the tree along with a bauble DD made at art class today!

Tempted to return to make something else, but DH's shifts will probably get in the way.

Ordered the 3lb steak pie for new years day today, yummy!

TeaAndTunnocks Fri 07-Dec-12 23:17:46

We are putting our tree up this weekend, I think.

Did you all see that H is offering more classes. I might go along one evening with my DD if we can fit it in. Maybe even take my mum. That would be lovely.

A peh for New Year sounds good. We are going to find a whole load of new traditions, I think.

MuirheadMafia Sun 09-Dec-12 20:43:05

Tree is up at our house too! DD1, who's 6, pretty much took charge and dressed most of it with some 'help' from DD2 (2.5) as I was busy making a cake/dinner and DH has got man-flu and hasn't strayed far from the sofa for the past two days hmm

Anyway, it looks great and I'm feeling even more Christmassy now!

Craft night was good fun - I surprised myself by completing a felt stocking, so now it's hanging from my work noticeboard in a vague attempt to make my desk look festive.

I may have recruited someone else to be a Local Ambassador - I'm sending her a link to the site etc so hopefully she will be in touch soon Tea.

Am off to Birmingham for work for the next 2 days - must go and finish packing, am having a wordrobe 'mare! confused

Headinagoodbook Sun 09-Dec-12 20:54:40

Hiya! I'm so excited to find this - dundee mn! Woo!
Will have to start looking out for mnetters in the street now!
Hello everyone!(waves manically!)

WrongSideoftheBridge Sun 09-Dec-12 21:00:25

<waves to head)

We'll have to get some sort of secret signal. In my case a really badly made Christmas decoration.

MuirheadMafia Sun 09-Dec-12 21:02:06

Hello headinagoodbook! <waves back>

We'll be the ones walking down the street holding pombears and wearing judgeypants grin

Headinagoodbook Sun 09-Dec-12 21:29:41

Judgeypants hoiked, pom bears at ready, fruit shoot in pocket
(nods sagely)

TeaAndTunnocks Mon 10-Dec-12 14:31:05

Hello headinabook (that sounds like me)

Hope you have a good time in B'ham, Muirhead. Would love to have more LAs - we should organise a LA coffee and cake chat so I can explain what it's all about.

Pehsandbridies Mon 10-Dec-12 15:40:28

Hello headinagoodbook <wave>

Has anyone else seen the gingerbread wifie that H posted on her facebook page, I now need to go back and sew one of those! I managed a heart and a stocking, and want the complete set.

I saw a packet of pickled onion pombears in the bin at work! I giggled and then glanced around the floor to see if anyone was watching me giggle!

Errolite Mon 10-Dec-12 16:18:29

I did was bonny that little gingerbread man smile

We've come to the sad realisation that a one year old tornado and the Xmas tree would be a bad combination hmm no tinsel in this household this year

DixieDust Mon 10-Dec-12 22:00:27

Tree up - I now need a week off. DC free. And a lie down in a dark dark room. With alcohol.

TeaAndTunnocks Tue 11-Dec-12 22:47:51

ooh, sorry guys. Not been around much recently. It has been absolutely manic here. As ever. Last week of work, and I have done NO prep for Xmas. Eek.

Yes, I like the gingerbread man too. Must hang my wee stockings on the tree

WrongSideoftheBridge Wed 12-Dec-12 16:58:56

Doing some Christmas shopping today...there are some lovely new shops! Lovely Things on Dock Street and Rosy Tuesday across from the DCA. I could have maxed my credit card easily!!

DixieDust Fri 14-Dec-12 17:41:20

Lovely Things is FAB-U-LOUS, if you don't follow her on FB you should, she's hysterical! Rosy Tuesdays pretty too but the fashion a touch too young & skinny for me <gah>

Pehsandbridies Sun 16-Dec-12 18:31:26

It was all go in our household today, I seem to be getting other peoples shopping now as well as my own! Was in tesco riverside today, making good use of SIL's discount card, and it was so quiet got parked right at the door, was expecting it to be mobbed.

Anyone been to Little Pinata in the ferry, looking for recommendations!

Pehsandbridies Sun 16-Dec-12 18:32:26

Also suspect that DD has a UTI, that will be fun trying to get a sample, and get a doctors appointment!

DixieDust Sun 16-Dec-12 19:15:34

Yes, we had one of our DDs birthday parties in there once. The lady is quite intense/serious but they kids enjoyed it for what it was AND they keep what they make so that sorted out the party bags grin

can you not get hold of one of the make shift cardboard thingies that 9wells had when pregnant people need to pee? Or if she's old enough to use a potty?

TeaAndTunnocks Sun 16-Dec-12 23:54:07

Am going to hit Lovely Things this week - really just needign something for the men in my life though, and some stocking fillers.

oh, booo to UTI. How old is DD? My DD used to get them a lot but seems to have grown out of them. Hope she is ok

MuirheadMafia Tue 18-Dec-12 22:41:51

Hello again all! I too have been a bit manic and stressed to the max, but I managed to let off some steam at the weekend with a couple of friends and the festive cheer now seems to be taking over from the Christmas hysteria. PLus the end is in sight - just one more (short) working day until I am off for 2 whole weeks - hurrah! smile

The DDs visited Santa today at Ardler complex with their Gran and seemed to have a lovely time - looks good from the few pics which MIL took. Neither of them were too freaked out by the big guy in the beard and they got a tube of sweets/biscuits each for a present (although apparently you can bring your own for him to give I think?!) So potentially a recommendation there if anyone's looking for a grotto to visit.

However I've discovered a visit to Santa can trigger some late additions to the Christmas list - both asked for a Barbie which has so far NOT been mentioned hmm. Although I was considering this anyway, as I managed to bag a second hand Barbie plane from someone at work who was getting rid of it. It's a proper classic Barbie toy, never seen one before. Don't know where the flip I'm going to put it though, it's BIG

Errolite Sun 30-Dec-12 09:14:42

Morning ladies,

how was everyone's xmas? We all got norovirus, so the week beforehand was a little horrid, but we were all recovered by the day itself and the boy enjoyed himself, he's started to get the whole notion of presents smile

Pehsandbridies Wed 02-Jan-13 20:55:59

DD has chickenpox, I now have cabin fever!

Christmas was fine, DD had a ball although found it a bit overwhelming. Next year, I plan to hide in a cottage until everything is over.

Happy New Year everyone.
