Hi everyone. I'm trying to donate my breast milk for those who need it. Please have a look at my Facebook and let me know if you're interested.

Or message me on here if you have any questions. I'm in Exeter in the South West.

ChiliHemling I'm guessing you've been in touch with neonatal units? I think they are always on the look-out. What a fab thing to offer!

I donated litres to to the SW milk bank after DD3's birth and stay in NNU. You have to contact Karen Read at the neonatal unit. She will (eventually) get back to and explain what you need to do. Essentially you have to have a blood test at your GPs to check you're not carrying any nasties that can be passed through milk. You can then donate any milk stores you have in the freezer if you want. I went in monthly for about 4 months with a couple of litres at a time. The NNU will be able to give you the little bottles to store it in. Your milk is then sent off to Southampton where they have a specialist pasteuriser and then redistributed around the SW to the hospitals that need it. It's an amazing thing to do as it makes such a huge difference to tiny prem babies whose mums often don't lactate properly after an emergency birth. Good luck!

Unfortunately the SW bank is unable to take any donations for probably the next 6 months. However through Facebook I have found a lovely lady to donate to :-) the group 'human milk for human babies' on Facebook is amazing!
