looking for a friend?(9 Posts)
Hi there, im a 27yr old married mum from longford, i have a 7 yr old daughter and a 4 month old son, my husband is always at work so i feel like im on my own. My mum passed away and she was my best friend and i feel i need to get out and meet mums in my area but dont know where to start, im quite shy so feel a bit of a spare part when turning up to baby groups on my own, and tend to avoid putting myself in the situation. I really want to get to know mums in the area/ similar situation as being at home and chasing around for children all week means us mums dont get chance to socialise.
Hiya - I'm in Nailsworth, near Stroud, so not very local to you - but I just wanted to say "Hi" and to let you know you aren't alone in feeling a bit alone.
I always hated baby groups - I used to pop to my Mum's if I wanted a change of scene.
I really hope some nice Longford Mums say "Hi" too.
Hi, i'm too far away from you just outside Stow but have you tried going to your local childrens centre and seeing if they have a baby massage group, it will get you out and meeting other mums with young babies. x
Hi, I'm a working mum based in Gloucester with a 3 year old and one on the way. Not a stay at home mum, although it's becoming a consideration, but would love to meet a new friend. I know what it's like turning up to groups on your own, being a shy person myself !
Hello, not from Longford but am from Gloucester.
I hate baby and parent groups, I think they are the most non social environments out. Every time I have struggled to a group I have turned up litteraly have clicks of parents sit with their backs to me and I and my son may as well not exist. I have tried to talk to parents prior to a group starting and the most rude times have been when women have spoken over me to say hi to a mate and then ignored me! I can't be bothered with that behaviour, it is like the worst aspects of Facebook in public!
Anyway surprisingly there are other women on here, from Gloucester feeling lonely and bad for their children because they don't know other people with children, am thinking there needs to be a new group that deliberately goes out of their way to meet new parents and welcome them and their children rather than allowing little pockets of groups to sit and fester in their corners like Gollams with a ring !
So there is Bounce and Rhyme, I am waiting for my ankle to heal and get out of plaster, I have had arthritis since I was born so most my joints replaced or being replaced! I hope to get back to this again and force some parents to blooming chat! Would be so pleased if new people came so didn't feel so alone in the group, the bounce and rhyme is at Hucclecote library 9.30am on Tuesday morning, 2pm Wednesday and Longlevens library 10am Monday.
Alternatively inbox me cos am thinking of getting all us parents and kids in this local thread, all saying are lonely, feel our children are lonely, together to form our own group!
I can't go to Childrens centres because my mum is a child social worker and practically forbids me to go to them, a professional thing I think, god knows what it is?!?
I am here anyway, really pleased to chat with another who feels similar to me.
I'm Wendy and live in Tuffley, Gloucester with my husband, 20 week old son Toby and our cats and chickens.
I've recently started running the Gloucester NCT Bumps and Babies group. I know some of you have commented on not liking baby groups, but just wanted to let you know it's there in case you'd like to come and say hello. http://www.nct.org.uk/branches/gloucester/bumps-and-babies
I'm also thinking I'd like to set up some sort of parent and baby walking (not very far at all!) group though I can't think of where we could walk! Someone I met last week runs a group in Surrey that meet in a cafe then walk around a big park which has lots of routes possible and then goes back to the cafe. It sounds a great idea but can't think of somewhere suitable.
I'd also like to try a bounce and rhyme (can't spell it sorry!) group.
Hi there just noticed your post I'm 33 and in Cheltenham with a 2yr old daughter and next baby due in December.
