Pregnant mum groups or coffee mornings in Shoreditch or Islington...?

(115 Posts)
Peneloppe Tue 10-Jan-12 15:36:42

I was in Belsize Park the other week and noticed a coffee shop that held mum and bump mornings once a week. Does anyone know of anything like this in the Islington, Shoreditch or City area? I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my first child, am keen to meet other local soon-to-be-mums like myself!

Mrspi Mon 16-Jan-12 10:30:26

If you join NCT (you don't have to do a course, you can just be a member), they do an email list of all the other Islington and Hackney mums to be (usually about 40 of them!) and arrange meet ups before and after the babies are born.
Hope that helps

MRoy7007 Sat 28-Jan-12 11:51:52

Hello there, I'm so pleased this one has been posted as I'm a newly expecting mum- 34 wks who would love to meet up with others in wonderful lslingtonsmile
I know the area well and a coffee cake and chat day would be fab.
You can either contact me directly or we can get a ladies group organised through this thread - the more the merrier. I think we should consider a mixed group of expecting mums, new mums and those already with babes or toddlers . I'll try to get a selection of suitable venues organised which can cater for us but it'll all be dependant on how many join on the day.
I understand that with differing timelines, we'll have to be flexible but the main thing is to get this off the ground and pencil in when we can smile
All the best,
Mx

Hello all,
I've had one person contact so far re: meeting up in Islington. I'll keep this open for a few weeks to see if anyone else would like to meet up too. Thinking about meeting up somewhere near Highbury and Islington station at first and then perhaps discuss some other venues . I've noticed there is also a group in Crouch End which is also a lovely place to visit , so may consider popping along to their meet up groups as they seem quite friendly and organised. I'll defo keep you all posted here so that you can consider popping along too if you'd like to! smile
All the best x

Roll on the summer ..... smile

julesfirsttimer Sun 05-Feb-12 16:12:31

Hi all,
I am based near Highbury and would love to have a get together. Im actually over due at the moment 40 + 3!! So i wont be able to probably join up until after the big event as just waiting around at the mo for something/anything to start happening!
But will definitely keep an eye on thread to meet up as soon as is possible!

Best of luck
x

tinkerbellmummy Mon 06-Feb-12 17:24:24

I would definitely come to this! I adore my friends, but I would love to meet some new mummy friends.
I'm 27 weeks with our first baby and have had a pretty rough pregnancy.
If anything gets arranged, or if you need any help arranging, email me at thatwonderland@hotmail.co.uk
I live in Holloway/Islington xx Angel xx

MARoy7007 Thu 09-Feb-12 23:22:31

Hello there all, hope you're all keeping well, warm and snug esp. in this snow!
It's been rather nippy out there but I'll still keep this open until we get some better weather smile We can all still post comments/ communicate via the site re: best dates for all. As mentioned I'll organise booking a table or a few comfy couches at an easily accessible place for all ..... near transport etc as soon as the weather gets better and the snow clears ;)
I'll still check the site every week and will def post a couple of venue choices nearer the time we've confirmed the day, time and venue .
Keep well and take care ladies !
Mx

Ps tinkerbellmummy will def email you as would be gd to get some more involved in co-ordinating smile

Pps Jules - happy to have you along afterwards - fingers crossed for you & best of luck !

DrexiePie Sun 12-Feb-12 08:51:33

Hi there!
I would be interested in meeting other mums to be in local area too especially if it is likely to involve cake!! I'm 20 weeks now so have got a while to go....smile

Let me know if you sort something out xx

SonjaK Mon 13-Feb-12 22:39:20

Hi,
I would love to join as well! I'm 19 weeks pregnant and just moved to Islington one week ago.

Has any of you attended pregnant yoga classes near here? I'm choosing between
- Yoga Therapy London in Elizabeth Garrett College, Risinghill Street, Islington and
- Islington Yoga at 357 City Rd.
If someone wants to join, I would love to go there together.

LBN01 Sat 18-Feb-12 07:52:47

Hi All, hoping I am not too late to join this thread but I would really love to meet other mums to be locally and have recently joined a yoga class to do so too. I am 30 weeks and am on the Islington/Hackney border and would love some decaff coffee and cake so please count me in for your next gathering. Please let me know If I can do anything to help organise this. Looking forward to meeting you all!

LBN01 Sat 18-Feb-12 07:55:58

SonjaK- just seen your post. I go to Pregnancy yoga at the Life Centre on Britannia Row just off Essex Road on a wednesday evening. I have been to three classes and really enjoy them, happy to meet you there if you fancy it.

MARoy7007 Sun 19-Feb-12 14:11:05

Hello all, hope all well with you all smile
Glad to see a few comments now re: meeting up!
Ok - so thoughts on the first place to meet up:-
1) The Cock Tavern is the pub on the corner of Highbury & Islington station on Upper Street.
2) The Hen and Chicken which is opposite and near Highbury Fields.
I think these two venues should be ok for the 1st social as they're both near the station and have ample room.
They also serve pots of coffee / tea (decafs) , hot chocolate, CAKE , and normal pub fair should you feel more peckish !!
There are a few more venue options such as Italian cafe's near Highbury/Upper street which I'll also post details of later so let me know what's gd for all smile
I'll also post the full addresses and a link for all the venues.

SonjaK and LBNO1 - enjoy the yoga smile
Happy for others to help co-ordinate too - more the merrier .....

Take care ladies and hope you've all had a gd week so far !

I'm on double Gaviscon on the rocks at the mo smile

Ps Will send emails round to your other inboxes soon but please let me know if a Saturday or Sunday is best for you all. I'll then pencil in some provisional dates ..... La viva la spring !

SonjaK Sun 19-Feb-12 20:44:26

Hi,

Thank you for organising the meeting MARoy7007! For me Sunday is better this week. Weekdays would be even more suitable.

Sonja

DrexiePie Thu 23-Feb-12 16:13:34

Hi there,

Sat or Sunday good for me! Thanks for organising! smile

LBN01 Thu 23-Feb-12 18:13:51

Hi Ladies, Yoga was great thanks, it really helps prevent that crunched feeling! I can't do weekdays (during the day) as I work in Canary Wharf but could do an evening or weekends are ok. I can do Sunday daytime this weekend- happy to meet for brunch or just afternoon coffee and cake. Good luck trying to find a slot to suit us all MARoy7007! Just go with the majoirty and If I can't make it this time I'll try to make it another day. Thanks

MARoy7007 Fri 24-Feb-12 22:47:17

Dear all,
Hope all good at your end !
Been a very eventful week for me so far . I've been advised by my consultants that they'd recommend me for an inducement in the next 2 weeks which will be ahead of term.
I suppose times now caught up with me as I was hoping to get the meet up organised this weekend at The Famous Cock Tavern however that might be impossible for me now as I'll need the next 2 weekends to get the final preparations done for my big D-day!

I can meet up with anyone wanting to meet up this Tuesday 28th Feb at The Famous Cock Tavern after my last ante natal class round 4 or 5/6ish if anyone is up for that ?
Or I can try and organise a meeting for the end of March/beginning of April ? Think it would be great to try our best for this Tuesday in Feb even if only a few attend as at least we can get the ball rolling and perhaps one of you lovely ladies can also help co-ordinate the March social - which we can discuss on Tuesday !

Please let me know ASAP about Tuesday 28th Feb .

I'll post details/links for the addresses of the Tavern and the Hen & Chickens. There is also a place called The Junction near the station which has an outside garden area - will be good for a meet up in the spring and summer which I'll also post as "for information only" for you all. I used to go there a lot in my younger days so will be great to go there again in newer circumstances smile

Sorry for short notice but I'll keep you all posted for sure re: updates on meet ups and my D-day ! I had a slight prob with my cervix hense going ahead of term- however that's another story all together - can chat more on that on Tuesday thou if you need info on cervix , as feel like an expert on that !!

Will send a last minute round Robin email on Monday to double check about Tuesday & if anyone can make it - remember there's no pressure as we've got to go with the flow as they say smile
All the best,
M smile

Thanks and take care smile

MARoy7007 Sat 25-Feb-12 11:27:18

Great Drexie, If I get there for 430/5ish can meet you there, then you can head off to your class at 6.00ish? I'll see if Sonja also can make it so at least they'll be 3 of us to get the ball rolling !

Will be good to finally meet ! Will send you tel no as well later on ....
Keep well all,

MARoy7007 Wed 29-Feb-12 15:49:51

Hello all,

Sonya and l met up on Tuesday which was fab smile Drexie couldnt make this one as had to have some blood tests but hopes to join in for the next one!
We talked about how important it was to try and get a good network group around us esp as new mums, how Islington has so many great things to do and how we'll try and make an effort to get some socials organised during this unique time in our lives !!

Im handing over now to the very capable Sonya, who'll organise something for March/ April. I've said i'll still help out but might have to take it a bit easier in March. Can perhaps help organise something like a picnic at Highbury Fields or a coffee house at Caledonian Rd, Sunday lunch / stroll along the Southbank in May / summer for us.
There's also a free website which lists some great free events that people might be interested in . I can send details of it as well as it includes things like free comedy events (for nights out without the kids or partners/friends), free events for mums and children, free arty things to do ....
Looking forward to new beginings now ..... ;)
All the best, mx

LBN01 Tue 06-Mar-12 18:56:02

Glad you two managed to meet and that Sonya is taking over. Best wishes MX, hope all goes as you would wish.

Sonja and Nappymaestro, I'll be at yoga tomorrow eve so hopefully see you there- real name is Julia.

SonjaK Wed 07-Mar-12 22:28:35

Hello all,

We had a lovely meeting with Mita last week. I also met with Julia at the Life Centre yoga (which is wonderful by the way) tonight and we decided to get together next Wednesday 14 March at 8pm at the Tinderbox coffee shop (N1 Centre, 21 Parkfield St, Angel, London N1 0PQ), close to Angel station. It would be lovely to see you all there!

And congratulations Jules! It would be wonderful to see your little one in one of our meetings! The Tinderbox cafe should be suitable for buggies too:
www.netmums.com/islington/local/view/restaurants-pubs-and-cafes/cafes/tinderbox-angel

If you are able to join, just send me a message and I'll send you my phone number, so that we can find eachother without problems.

Have a lovely week! Take care!

Sonja

nappymaestro Wed 07-Mar-12 23:00:40

I'm about to move out of N1 but there is so much to do here for new mums! Glad you liked the yoga - Sandy is a great teacher and her mum and navy yoga class has just been amazing. Highly recommend!

It's also worth trying out the la leche league meetings at born shop in stoke Newington for bf support. If you call Born they will give you the dates of the next meetings.

nappymaestro Wed 07-Mar-12 23:01:20

I go to pregnancy yoga class on Wednesday nights in Bethnal Green which finishes at 7:45 so I might be 10-15 mins late but can definitely come along next Weds. Sonja I will send you a message now smile

biyboo Sun 11-Mar-12 09:15:00

Hi all mums to be.
I live in Islington, just off Essex rd. My due date is 28 March and almost all mums in my group have given birth. I am one of the last in the due dates. If any one would like to meet for tea/cake or lunch at Browns in Islington green(lots of space there for us and our bumps) I am free this Tues 13 March 1pm?
It has been so lovely to talk to other mums to be, as every pregnancy is different but you can always relate to others as they can to you.

If anyone wants to join me can you post me so I recieve an e mail as I don't always log on and check directly through mumsnet.

Be great to see/meet others x x

biyboo Sun 11-Mar-12 09:16:26

Oh and thanks Julia x x

MARoy7007 Sun 11-Mar-12 10:06:58

Good morning ladies, hope all well with you all!
Gave birth Friday 2nd March, lovely baby boy - Christopher Rueben Harvey smile
Wow what a week - no induction required as went ahead of time. Went to the Whittington at 7am and he arrived at 8.33am - very quick phew. Pat on the back for me as only had gas and air and a very useful Tens machine I bought beforehand.
Id recommend you all practise your breathing techniques for a more easier delivery - funny how sometimes you can forget how to breathe properly!
It really does feel like you're constipated inc. of the need to push - so don't worry/panic and remember it's your experience...... to enjoy !
I ended up quoting philosophy (Descartes) whilst "enjoying" the ol gas canister - it was such a surreal experience - and yes defo one to remember for life with a smile smile
Had some Epipos stitches so am now recovering from that & having fun with the lil un .
Tinderbox is a super fab choice - well done Sonja ! I'd luv to meet up again but as mentioned am in recovery mode so look forward to the next one !
It's so important having a gd support/ network gp around ESP during this amazing time in our lives so thanks to all for getting involved.

Ps Hope Browns goes well too - they have a lovely menu and great for Sunday lunches !
Pps - I've got the urban Quinney Buzz http://www.quinny.com/gb-en/products/strollers/buzz-3, and hope to also organise some long walks along the river with buggies later on in the summer ......to keep fit so let me know if anyone would be interested in that too!

Take care and keep in contact smile

I was also unfortunately not able to make it yesterday Biyboo. I hope you had a nice meeting.

Tonight we will meet at 8pm at the Tinderbox coffee shop (N1 Centre, 21 Parkfield St, Angel, London N1 0PQ), close to Angel station. There will be at least LBN01, Cheeser and me. See you there, if you can make it!

Sonja

julesfirsttimer Wed 14-Mar-12 14:22:16

Hi Ladies,
Lovely to see so many on here now, I am planning on coming tonight with the little man of course as im feeding so dont go anywhere without him!
He can be a little grisly at that time of night so hopefully he will behave himself, and it wont take us too long to get out, but as you will all soon learn its unpredictable!
Hope to see you guys tonight.
Jules

SonjaK Wed 14-Mar-12 15:31:25

Great that you will be able to join with your baby Jules! See you tonight!

Cheeser Wed 14-Mar-12 17:56:19

Hi, should still be able to make tonight but might be a bit late. If I leave yoga late or busses take forever I may abandon it as just getting so knackered these days sad

If I don't get there I'd still like to come along to another meetup. But like I say, I'll still try and make tonight smile

SonjaK Thu 15-Mar-12 10:48:00

We had a very nice meeting last night with LBN01, Jules, me and a lady from our pregnancy yoga. It was lovely to see your cute baby, Jules and hear your experiences of giving birth and nursing the baby. Tinderbox was also a cosy meeting place, although maybe not the most convenient for buggies.

It would be nice to make these meetings a weekly event. I would prefer a bit earlier timing, we met at eight last night because of our pregnancy yoga. For me a meeting next Tuesday 20 March at 6pm at the Tinderbox cafe would be ideal. Send me a message if you are able to join. I hope to see many of you there!

Enjoy the sunshine and have a lovely week!

Morning all,
Just wanted to say thanks for the best wishes/congrats etc smile
Crikey - doesn't time fly by ! We're all doing well and I'm getting the hang of b/feeding now and finding the b/feeding thread on m/net very useful indeed !
Had a bout of engorgement and thought my glands were going to explode - splat !! Would recommend def emptying them often and to go easy on the electric breast pump in the early days- cabbage leaves on the breast also actually helpsmile I have a drop in b/feeding group at a local centre that I go to which is also very useful in these early days.
Hope you all have a great time at the Tinderbox tonight & look forward to popping along very soon to the next gathering.
Well done Sonya for organising smile
Jules - gd luck too with your lil chap smile
All the best xM

Hi,

Can you let me know if this group is still up and running? I had my baby 4 weeks ago and keen to get out and about and meet up with anyone in the Islington area?

Fiona

SonjaK Wed 30-May-12 17:10:24

I would love to organise another meeting, but unfortunately I won't be able to anymore, since I'll leave to give birth at home outside UK. So I would suggest one of you new ones to just suggest a time and a place for the next meeting.

I will join again after my baby is born and we will be back here in August..

fvle1979 Mon 11-Jun-12 14:27:00

Thanks Sonia, anyone else still interested in meet ups. If so let me know. Thanks Fiona

MARoy7007 Tue 12-Jun-12 22:32:50

Hello there all ! I'm back - hope all well smile

Sonja - Bon voyage , good luck and best wishes with the delivery smile Hope to see you again when you get back in August .

Fiona, Congratulations , hope you enjoyed the first month smile
I'm defo interested in another social and can organise as before. My lil one Christopher Harvey is a grand total of 3 mths now smile wow doesn't time fly by ! I'm a new mum so am keen to get some socials organised with others
and share experiences smile

Let me know what days are convenient for you and I'll also post a few suggestions. Suggest we check the Met for weather forecasts thou as better to wait for the sun to come back out which I'm sure it will do soon enough !

At least we'll have sufficient time whilst it's drizzly to organise things and give others the opportunity to join in too !

All the best as always
Mxx

P's I've got some new free apps /newsletters from
BabyCentre.co.uk. - would recommend for tracking your babies progress over the months. They also have pregnancy apps which I found great too as a reliable source of info !

fvle1979 Fri 22-Jun-12 14:50:19

Hi, that would be great and I am generally free in the week so fairly flexible. Hoping the sun will come out next month which will make it a bit easier.

Hi
Are people still meeting up with their little ones? :-)

MARoy7007 Thu 28-Jun-12 23:44:27

Hello there, lovely sunny day today smile

Yes, was hoping to get one organised for July now. I was waiting for people to get back if they were interested and we now have a few replies.
Next step is to ask which dates are convenient for all so just write back re: either a week day or weekend ? Suggest mid /late July and all dependant on the weather !

I'll then suggest a fab local place for us to meet, chat and have a giggle about our respective tales of pregnancy, mumsnet and motherhood.

All the best & let's hope for some more sun !

MR smile

MARoy7007 Mon 02-Jul-12 09:35:34

Morning all ! We've just had a glorious weekend of sunshine so looks like the summer has finally arrived smile
I've had a few requests for a weekend meet up for July's social so will suggest a Sunday as less hectic than a Saturday on Upper St or Angel !

Suggest the 15th July or the 29th which is mid July and the end of July which will give everyone ample time to respond to which day they prefer smile

I'll post venue details & times next - suggestions most welcome !

All the best and see you all soon !

Hello!

I have just started a Monday morning Mother and Baby craft session in my shop at 57 Amwell Street, Islington (very near Angel tube). This is aimed at mothers with young babies and is an informal session in which mums get to have a chat over tea and cake whilst doing some simple fun crafting. The first morning will be on the 23rd of July. If you're interested and would like to know more please have a look at the 'Clubs' page of my website: www.inwiththeoldme.com

Hope to see some of you there!

All the best,

Alice

Hello mummies (and mummies to be)!

I'm Sarah and have just started an online toy store for babies (www.albertstoybox.co.uk). I was thinking of having a coffee morning at my flat on Liverpool Road (just off Upper Street) so that mums and bubs can see and play with some of the toys. If you are interested, let me know and I can try and organise something smile

Hi,
I found this new meetup group http://www.meetup.com/Mums-and-Bumps/.

"Want to meet recent and expecting mothers in Islington? Want to be in a cosy environment but to get out of the house?

Join Mums and Bumps to meet other mothers-to-be in the local area. Mums and bumps is a social support group that welcomes recent and expecting mothers. We are here to share the struggles, joys and beauty of motherhood. - and each others great company smile

A chance to relax, enjoy a cup of camomile tea, devour a cheeky a slice of cake, chat and a laugh and make new friends with other expectant and recent mothers.

Meetups are free and we even have a retired midwife at hand should you have and simple concerns and general questions ;)"

I will go to the meeting next tuesday at 11.30 at Madam Chi Coffee Lounge,
187 Upper Street, London.

Maybe see some of you there!

Sonja

MARoy7007 Sat 25-Aug-12 17:53:59

Hello there Sonya, how's it going m'dear ? smile

I've organised & been on a few more socials via mumsnet - met some fab friends smile Must say your mums and bumps group looks good and seems like an established group ! I might not be to make this Tuesdays gp if the weather is still bad as don't want to catch a cold or get the lil un bunged up either ! He's 6mths now, we're weaning - he's already crawling and walking in his walker and still a cutie pie ! - Gosh they grow up so quickly !

I'm hoping to organise another meet up at Caledionian Rd after the bank holiday and when the sun comes back out.
Let me know how the Tuesday gp went, when's the next one and if you'd like to meet up at Caledionan Rd at all ?

Anyone else for Caledionan Rd ? Post a message/ let me know ......

All the best
M smile

ScottishGem Thu 06-Sep-12 22:16:53

Ooooh i would be interested in a meet up at Cally road as i live just off there.

katolla Sun 09-Sep-12 18:45:04

Scottishgem, same! I'm at the bottom end near the canal, you?

MARoy7007 Thu 20-Sep-12 15:48:05

Hiya, hope all well smile Do you have any possible dates ? Do you both prefer weekdays or weekends ? I'm v flexible ! Also any particular place you might prefer ? I thought it might be a gd idea to go for a stroll along the canal if possible ..... if the suns out and we can get some mild exercise in and fresh air !!

As mentioned, I'm flexible smile

Re:- Caledonion Rd meet up smile

soder009 Wed 10-Oct-12 10:26:47

Hello! My name is Jenny, I'm 36 weeks pregnant - and expect our baby boy on the 6th of November. Sooo exciting (and a little scary ;-) My partner Chris and I live in Shoreditch and I'm hoping to meet expecting / new mums in the neighbourhood (Shoreditch, City and/or Islington). Any tips?

Georgia33 Tue 04-Dec-12 09:35:41

Hi there - I live in the Shoreditch area, and I'm 23 weeks - due March 31st. Hoping to meet up with girls due around the same time as me! I guess everyone else on this talk thread must have already had their babies? xG

Twinklebella Tue 04-Dec-12 12:15:01

Hello there all and welcome to the newer version of the meet up pages !
I'm the new co-ordinator of the islington meet ups and have already organised a few fab meet ups before smile

I'm planning a possible new year meet up at Caledonian Road now and will post more details regarding time and place soon. I'm also working alongside some of the mumsnet team in order to offer some great opportunities to review some events and shows so will hope some of you will be interested in that too ! Again more details on that , coming up v soon so keep your eyes peeled & watch this space.
As some of you know I have a lil Bonney boy Kristopher Harvey who's now 9months. I organised some meet ups here whilst pregnant and understand how wonderful it is to have a chance to chat with fellow pregnant mums or current mums in order to share experiences, have a giggle or just a gd ol moan and a glass of wine ! Please let me know if you're still interested in the Jan meet up as will be a fab way to welcome in the new year for us all !

Onaiis31 Tue 04-Dec-12 21:19:43

Hi I was told by Emma that you're the new ambassador for Islington? I was hoping to meet up with local mums who have babies in the age range of 5/6 months but if I look at the thread nothing seems to have happened with the group since last February. Bit confused! Let me know if there's a meeting as Emma suggested, in the new year (fsmile) thanks and happy holidays!

katoilla Sun 09-Dec-12 23:25:42

I'd like to come in January please! I'm 33 weeks at the moment and will start mat leave midway through jan.

Twinklebella Mon 10-Dec-12 12:34:47

Hi all smile Yes, I'm the new Islington ambassador smile
I planned a few meet ups earlier on but had my lil boy in March 2012 so was rather busy with new mum-hood lol.
I'm planning more organised meet ups in Jan 2013 now and think Caledonian Rd is a good starting point as has a lift so gd access for buggies or pregnant mums ! I've posted details on the other meet up page for Islington so please just post an interest there - so I've got an idea of numbers. Planning some fun & relaxed get togethers at least once a month so hop along - the more the merrier !I'll organise a few ice breaker games but I'm hoping as with the other meet up, we'll all have a few similar interests .....either tales of pregnancy or the joys and ups & downs of being a parent !
Hope to see you all soon smile

katoilla Mon 10-Dec-12 18:36:21

Could you possibly post a link to the other Islington page please? Should I be able to see it on the phone app?

Twinklebella Tue 11-Dec-12 14:45:30

http://local.mumsnet.com/islington/group-meet-ups/islington

Link attached as requested.
I'm hoping people will post their names onto the meet up page so I'll have an idea of numbers going in Jan 2013. I've left the venue as "to be confirmed" as I'd like details first of numbers and then will pick a suitable
place for us. I didn't drink any alcohol whilst pregnant apart from a rare glass of non alcoholic beer/wine
and stuck to decaff coffee & tea - however this time round for the meet ups I think it would be nice to go to somewhere that offers either decaff or a glass of vino for mums who are able to etc ...
The meet ups are all very informal, just a good chance to relax & have a laugh about life in general - it's good to talk as they say smile
They'll be fully dependant on weather thou as im sure none of us want to venture out in stormy weather so ill keep a track on :-http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/weatherlocation/united-kingdom/london/london.html?
location=816234&temp=C://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/weatherlocation/united-kingdom/london/london.html?location=816234&temp=C
The only thing I ask - is that you let me know at least a few days in advance if you can't make it please !! Its not a problem if the whole meet up is cancelled as I'll
just re-arrange another for later smile
All the best & remember to post on- line to say hi & join in smile

Twinklebella Tue 11-Dec-12 14:49:09

Ps think you should be able to view on your mobile. I had problems with the mobile site myself before but your best bet is to drop a line to Emma & co at HQ !

inreallife Wed 12-Dec-12 09:42:35

Hi all,
Mobile is almost there, just a few small tech tweaks to make.

You should be able to get to Local from Mumsnet by looking under the 'sections' drop down.

Then, in the local site you have the option to select 'Meet ups' and 'Group Meet ups'.

Try and ignore the fact that the heading of the page it takes you to says 'Local Talk'. (small tech tweak I was talking about).

I'm Emma by the way, (one of your local Islington Editors) - not to be confused with the lovely Emma at HQ.

Feel free to use the 'message poster' link if you want to get in contact. All thoughts and feedback very welcome - as we are running this site for YOU!

Klpp16 Sun 06-Jan-13 10:14:50

Interested in meeting up with future mums and mums of little ones. I am 23 weeks along and happy to help plan or just tag along for some fun.

Twinklebella Sun 06-Jan-13 13:50:45

Hello there Kipp16 & everyone ! Happy New Year , hope you all had a fab Christmas smile

I've put Wednesday 30th Jan down as the 1st meet up for this year . I can however change that to another day or Saturday if the weekend is better for people ? Just post a message here so I know who's interested in popping along & what dates people prefer!
We should be meeting at 1.00 at :-

The George Shillibeer Pub & Kitchen ,
1 Carpenter Mews.
Islington
London
N7 9EF .

You can view the venue on :-
http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/islington/business-guide/feature/the-george-shillibeer-pub--kitchen-

You can get directions/map by checking the Islington Local Group meet-up notice board where I've placed the details of the venue & dates.
They serve coffee & tea and you can also choose to have lunch there if you feel peckish ;)
It's a lovely place & very near Caledonion Tube station.
As mentioned, please let me know if you can make it on this thread or send me an email to confirm & i'll email my tel no to you.
If January is not good for people then I'll organise the next meet up for Feb.

I'll be there with my lil un (now 10 mths) & you're welcome to bring along your bumps, babes or toddlers too !

Looking forward seeing y'all theresmile

katoilla Sun 06-Jan-13 21:40:21

Hi twinklebella that's two days after my edd so I'm not sure smile

Klpp16 Tue 08-Jan-13 20:15:32

Weekends work better for me as I work during the week. Would love to join, but will be working away on the 30th.

Twinklebella Sat 12-Jan-13 15:11:46

Thanks everyone for replying here & to me by email smile
Kat - Dont worry if you can't make it, good luck with the big day, remember to breathe deeply & hope to see you afterwards smile

I know we're all due for a bout of cold weather & snow so the Jan meet up might have to be put back to the end of Feb.
I'll keep an eye on these emails and reply to everyone by the 28th Jan to confirm if it's still on or if we'll just re-arrange for Feb . We'll keep the same venue thou so people won't get confused re: location etc.

Cheers, take care all & keep warm smile

PS Sonya - hope you can make the Feb meet up too as will be fab to see you with your lil un ESP as we first meet up bump to bump last year ! Lots to catch up on !

Twinklebella Sat 12-Jan-13 15:13:25

PPS - We'll stick to weekends too if better for all smile

SuAngel Tue 15-Jan-13 17:15:05

Hi There, I'm 14 weeks and would definitely love to meet other mums in the area. The only thing is that I work during the week so weekends would be better for me as well. Hopefully I'll keep an eye out for the next meet up and hope its a weekend. ;)

inreallife Thu 17-Jan-13 11:49:14

Hi SuAngel.
If you add yourself to the Islington group, in group meet ups, you'll get a message whenever a meet up is happening. This way, if you are free, you won't miss out.

Either, go to Meet-ups at the top of the page and choose Group Meet-ups/Islington or use this link.

Hi Su Angel,Kipp, Kat, Onaiise, Scottish Gem, Georgia, Roxie &
anyone else I might have missed smile It looks like the Jan meet up will have to be put back to Feb now due to the bad weather. I'll put the date for Feb up on the Local meet up page. It will defo be during a weekend at the end of Feb (23.02.13). Same time & location /venue as before.

Keep warm, tuck up well and hope to see you all soon smile

P's Roxie - You're more  than welcome to pop along too as im sure there might be some interest & will be nice to see you there !

DyeInTheEar Fri 25-Jan-13 19:55:07

Thank you Twinklebella for organising - I'll add myself to the group and hopefully will be able to make an Islington meet up in February.

I'm also around during the week - I have six week old baby (DC3) & two older ones .. and finding myself either crazy busy at school run / nursery pick up times or just being alone with the baby and in desperate need for a coffee - so this local page could be godsend!

Twinklebella Fri 25-Jan-13 20:23:28

Hi there Dyeintheear lol - will be great if you can make Feb's meeting - sounds like you'll need a stiff cappuccino ! The venue is quite a gd meeting place for all so hopefully a few will be able to make it with the lil un. I'm hoping to organise a few other events re: ladies nights out as think we all deserve a few relaxing evenings without the lil un's or other half in tow lol ! There are a few fab comedy venues locally so I'll keep an eye out for some gd deals. Other suggestions most welcome smile

LAW343 Wed 06-Feb-13 14:14:27

Hi Twinklebella, I'm due in mid-March with my first and would love to come along and meet some local mums and mums-to-be, especially as I'm about to start my mat leave! I live in the Shoreditch/Hackney area but not too far! I will look out for final details of the February meet-up. Thank you! smile

Twinklebella Thu 21-Feb-13 13:11:27

Hi Law and co !
Hope everyone's doing well smile
Can you all let me know if you can def make this Saturdays meet up please ?
I'm bringing along a few books eg Gina Fords Contented baby, The Baby Whisperer, Raising boys etc . Please bring along any books you might have or magazines too .... just for a chat etc ! It's not a book club or book swap thou - just thought it might be fun chatting about what's out there ! Don't worry if you don't want to bring anything along as remember there's no pressure - it's just for relaxing & fun smile
Cheers m'dears !

Twinklebella Fri 22-Feb-13 17:24:42

Hello there,
Can you let me know if you can make tomorrow's (23.02.13)meet up please by the end of today /tonight (22.02.13) ?
If no one replys - I'll re-arrange it for March.
Thanks smile

LondonLindsey Tue 19-Mar-13 18:01:59

Hello ! Would love to be added to any meet up lists.
Am somewhat new to the UK and dont have any friends with babes sad
Weekdays in the day would work best for me.

Have a 12 week old baby girl and live in the center of Shoreditch.
Happy to host or meet somewhere.
xx

orevero Wed 03-Apr-13 12:36:13

Hi everybody!
I just found this, and would love to come along to any upcoming meetups. I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, and based between Shoreditch and Dalston, but happy to meet anywhere.
Hope to hear from you soon
Veronica

LondonLindsey Mon 08-Apr-13 11:41:06

For those in Shoreditch I have found a few fun things:
Thursdays at 10am Nike sponsors a free Mom and Baby Bootcamp.
Fridays at Move your frame theres a baby/ mom high energy excercise group.
The Rich mix isnt maybe technically in Shoreditch but a couple min walk from Shoreditch House. They have jiggly wigglers and a mom and baby cinema !

Yes Message me and lets meet! x

Twinklebella Fri 24-May-13 22:23:08

Hello there Veronica & Katie and co.
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you all ! We've been busy recently as had an offer in for our property and now we are in the process of exchanging contracts & moving ! We're going to miss Islington sad . it's such a fab place but we're moving to Twickenham now smile Veronica has sent me a message saying she might be able to help organise a meet up for the 12th June as has Katie smile
I must say, it's been great being the mums net organiser for Islington & I'm hoping the Twickenham ladies will be just as fab too !
I'll send a message also on the local meet up page - and invite anyone else to possibly take up the mantle as the new organiser ? It's a casual thing so no pressure involved .... Just posting on line meet ups for the mums to have fun with their kids & create a gd social network !

Twinklebella Fri 24-May-13 22:28:36

PS If anyone else wants to suggest any other venues, please do so as the more suggestions the better !
Also feel free to post a message here if you'd like to help organise a meet up for 12th June or perhaps people would like to take turns in organising ? Get in touch with the mums net team as they'll run through everything - it's really easy, free, lots of fun & great for the babies, toddlers and mums too !
All the very best Mita Roy Twinklebella smile

Twinklebella Mon 27-May-13 06:24:08

Morning all ! Hope you've all had a fab bank holiday weekend so far smile
Had a few replies back saying the 12th was a gd starting point . The last meet up were for the George Shillibeer bar & kitchen off Calidonian Rd. It was a gd as the tube station has a buggy friendly lift so easy to get to for us all & the pub had a wide open place space with comfy sofa's .

http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/islington/business-guide/feature/the-george-shillibeer-pub--kitchen-

O'bird emailed & mentioned another place near Holloway :- Sacred Cafe.

http://www.sacredcafe.co.uk/locations_highbury.htm

So we have 2 possible venues now.
So how about a vote now - post a message to let NE know which one you'd

Twinklebella Mon 27-May-13 06:31:17

So how about vote ? Post a message here about which one you'd prefer and if you're up for helping to organise this one too please smile
We're up to our knee's in removal boxes at the mo & my lil Christopher is at that age now (14mths) where he lives climbing into everything ! Wow , they sure do grow up quickly ladies so let's make sure we enjoy it all & have a laugh with fellow mums along the way !
PS thanks, obirdy, timeforacoffee, orevero, kipp and co for messages too !
