Newham MSLC aims to enable the voice of parents to be heard in order to facilitate real, sustained positive change in Maternity Services and improve policy and practice.

We do this by consulting mothers about their experience of using the maternity services and communicating such experience to those involved in providing services and by enabling a group of mothers to participate in the Newham Maternity Services Liaison Committee (MSLC).

Why should you join?

-The MSLC is where your voice gets heard, the Maternity Services listen and change happens.

-If you have accessed our maternity services within the last 5 years, you can join our network of mothers and have your say.

-You can help improve and shape your local maternity services.

-you gain new skills, training opportunities and the confidence to help you with other work you may do.
www.facebook.com/NewhamMslc Please spread the word, even if you are not able to join yourself!!

There will be a LAUNCH PARTY with FREE lunch (possibly consisting of pombars, frootshoots, naice (turkey) ham and greggs cheese and onion pasties)

SAFH's existing MSLC in Tower Hamlets has already made significant improvements including:

-Good feedback channel
-Women feel more empowered
-More breastfeeding support
-Improved attitude form day time staff
-In the process of establishing spot checks to gather feedback from maternity wards.

In 2006 the Department of Health (D0H) issued new guidelines stating that in every area there should be an effective multi-disciplinary maternity services forum, where commissioners, providers and users of maternity services bring together their different perspectives in partnership to plan, monitor and improve local maternity services. In 2012 Newham PCT commissioned Social Action for Health to establish the local MSLC.
