casbie Tue 03-Jul-07 14:40:35

going to learn to gig row tommorrow at falmouth water sports - beginners session at 6pm if anyone wants a go!

Rosa Tue 03-Jul-07 14:50:31

Have fun Casbie. I had a go at gig rowing last summer and loved it. Would love to have a go again but will wait until it gets a bit warmer

casbie Tue 03-Jul-07 16:01:00

rosa - which club did you join?

tried out the helford river. lovely place, but everyone was a bit older than me (i'm 30-ish) and i felt a bit like i was at school!

Rosa Wed 04-Jul-07 20:37:00

I diddn't join but had a try at Gorran they seemed a mixed age group but I think more over the 30 ish . I want to have a go again I am on the north coast through and the thought of going out in waves puts me off !

casbie Thu 05-Jul-07 08:43:21

well, it was a good session last night.

the people were really friendly and lots of newbies like me.

they have 4 gigs at falmouth and lots of peoplein men's and ladies. really enjoyed being out on the water. was a bit rough, but had good fun. definately will go again!

Rosa Thu 05-Jul-07 14:21:59

Well I will be at the Gorran open day thing sometime in August but if I get overthere earlier I will have another go I think they train on a tues.... Good job it was last night and not today isn't it foul???

casbie Thu 05-Jul-07 15:24:33

it seems to be raining every day for about six weeks.
: (

last night it was choppy, but because we're in harbour, it wasn't as rough as out to sea. wish i could afford to go sailing, but maybe next year.

this year am trying to get fit and doing surfing lessons. been practising swimming to build up upper body strength and hope that rowing will help too. surfing is fun, but i'm quite nervous about getting dumped on!

do you surf rosa?

Rosa Fri 06-Jul-07 21:16:47

Lordy me no the sea is far too cold for me am lucky if I manage a paddle. I was over at Gorran this afternoon what a lovely day ..FINALLY !
My niece surfs a bit and is going on a course I think next week for a week.
Sea was more than choppy yesterday red flags all over according to friends. We went to the play gym in Truro... fun !

casbie Mon 09-Jul-07 09:56:11

went to tehidy yesterday with the kids, that was good fun looking for dragons, bears and wolves...

only found an ice-cream, climbing trees and some jammy dodgers, but kids loved it!

best weather for ages! hurray!

Rosa Tue 10-Jul-07 10:49:49

dd wore t shirt for firt time in 2 weeks ( since we left Italy). Glorious weather we just stayed local and played in the garden. Pity it has vanished again !!!

BoingBoing Thu 02-Aug-07 16:10:39

Hi Everyone - just to introduce myself. I live outside Helston and work in Truro, and have one DS who was 2 in June.

caspercat Fri 03-Aug-07 14:45:22

Hi all. So glad i found you, anyone mind if i butt in??
Just moved to Truro (6 wks ago). DD just turned 1, DH at work, and i know NOBODY!! Not desperate or anything, promise!! Doing lots of things with DD (Caterpillar music, storytime at library and baby gym thing) but would love to get to know other mums :-) (to talk about things other than babies/kids too, darling things though they are!).
Will keep an eye on this thread if anyone wants to chat - quick info on me (so people can run away scared if they want - ample warning!) - am 30 something!, used to work as a vet nurse and hope to go back part time at some point, love going to the gym, reading, music mad, guilty pleasures are reading Heat magazine & listening to MEATLOAF (i blame my dad!). I also use brackets too much when typing! God, this sounds like a lonely hearts ad....

casbie Wed 08-Aug-07 14:13:31

sunshine and beach in 45 mins - can you tell i'm at work and clock watching!

Rosa Thu 16-Aug-07 21:52:28

Hi all. Still in Cornwall for another few weeks and dd loving it. Trying to get to the beach as much as possible despite the weather.
Caspercat hope you make some friends I have made more here in 2 months than 12 mths abroad. Found Cornish mums to be very welcoming.Which baby gym do you go to in Truro ?

caspercat Thu 30-Aug-07 14:09:34

Sorry for the delay! I take dd to a baby gym in on old Boy's club, run by a sweet elderly couple! Don't know the name, sorry xx

pgp Sat 01-Sep-07 14:50:09

Hi all, hope you are at last enjoying a bit of sunshine at last, not shy but then it's a way of meeting new mums!

I'm in St Eval near Padstow. Happy to meet new mums in the area, have a 15month old daughter. Started a new business called MIni IQ which is a great way to meet new mums and earn extra cash and share some great books games and toys with the family. It's a great money earner. Anyone fancy hearing more, then please let me know otherwise, be nice to get to know a few new people!

Rosa Fri 07-Sep-07 13:03:17

Hi I am back in Italy now and missing Cornwall like mad. DD is asking me for beach and Grandma so I think she is missing it as well.
Casper we might have met if the couple are Pat and John ..... Oh well must catch up on backlog of work !

Pastylover Mon 17-Sep-07 14:22:37

I am from near Falmouth and just thought I would say hi

casbie Fri 21-Sep-07 09:03:58

Rosa - why are you Italy? Do you have a job there?

I love Cornwall, but i could cope with going to Italy every so often!

Hello, everyone else!

School at the moment is trying to shoehorn Oyster Festival into it's day. making a boat out of cardboard with sail!! Just find that a bit wierd, i mean how many kids actually like oysters?

DS is already asking when christmas is! When is Aunty's birthday? When is Halloween!

You would have thought we had done nothing together all summer [sigh].

Rosa Wed 26-Sep-07 14:05:37

Am married to an Italian so live in Italy just commute back to Cornwall as much as I can with dd!
Terrible weather here today so dd and I have been creative ..she is only 18mths but we have managed to make a complete mess !

casbie Fri 28-Sep-07 09:09:31

rosa- that's very cool.

my little one (2) has just started a few sessions at a nursery and loving it. especially when she comes home with a drawing!

Icantdothis Sun 07-Oct-07 22:13:11

Hi all,

Just wanted to tell you about Baby Information Bank which is a great website for Cornwall - fantastic with wonderful resources. Check it out and have fun! wink

Thirstysomething Wed 12-Jan-11 18:09:34

Hi -- Newish to Mumsnet, living slap bang in the middle of Cornwall near St Columb, two daughters, one about to be two, the other about to be four. Any recommendations for/information on primary schools St Columb/Wadebridge area v gratefully received! Deadline looming on Friday...
Considering St Mawgan, St Breock, St Wenn....

Mevagisseyjo Wed 19-Jan-11 19:45:59

Hi Thirtysomething. Also new to Mumsnet, living in Withiel (sort of between Wadebridge, Bodmin, Newquay and St Austell!) I have a 2 year old - been starting to look as well. Thought St Wenn looked like a nice little school - hope you made a decision that you're happy with.

exclaremont Mon 14-Mar-11 10:17:30

Am moving back to Cornwall, grew up in Padstow in the '70's to look after elderly parents. Am thinking of moving to Truro and sending four of my children to Truro School. Does anyone have anything encouraging to say about it and the Prep Dept and also bringing up a family in Truro rather than in a nice village in the vicinity? Thanks.

fmwhornsey Thu 21-Apr-11 22:34:42

I'm about to move to Cornwall from North London this summer - dh has job in Penryn but we're in two minds about where to live - choice between Penryn/falmouth area with kids going to Kennall Vale or Stithians (only 2 schools nearby with places for both of them) or further south near St Hilary or Ludgvan (2 other schools with places). tempted by St Hilary as v near our favourite beach at Perranuthnoe & things in Penzance but also tempted by Falmouth due to art college& shops! any advice mumsnetters?

Thirstysomething Wed 13-Jul-11 09:17:29

Hi Mevagisseyjo, you are very close! (Does your surname begin with A by any chance?!) Sorry about delay replying, I don't get the time to come on mumsnet very often... Sending her to St Wenn. Tough decision between there and St Breock (very impressive), but gone for convenience over facilities... Lots changing at St Wenn so a chance to really get involved and change things that could be improved? Very sweet little school and got a great Ofsted. Will keep you posted... !

alliwant Sun 31-Jul-11 21:01:31

Hi ladies,

I am moving back to Cornwall after 12 years with 3 little ones. Moving to Probus, husband got a job at Truro school. Lost touch with most of my old school friends, anyone know any good playgroups in that area? My eldest will be at Preschool 2 and a half days a week, and i'll have a 2 year old and newborn.

Thanks in advance

CheshireCat Wed 07-Sep-11 19:23:27

Hi Caspercat, I just moved here, well about a year ago now from Kent.. Living in Truro too. Love it, although it is an adjustment.. mine are at school... I hope you still check these smile

CornishTsarina Sun 26-Feb-12 20:50:44

Hi Mspeef. Welcome to Cornwall. People do pop on and off these boards but not a huge amount. Good luck for July!

stubbornstains Tue 01-May-12 19:51:51

Cor, I've been on MN for about 3 years, and this is the first time I've found this bit! Honey, did you use to post as Feralgirl? If not, she must live close to you....

I live between Helston and Falmouth, and came on because I promised to Do my Bit for our playgroup (Gweek Seals Playgroup! It's fab!).

kerry6466 Tue 01-May-12 20:24:34

Hi stubbornstains! I've come on here for the first time in ages and just seen your post. I'm hoping to come to your playgroup soon. I'm in Constantine x

cloggs142 Sun 01-Jul-12 08:36:13

Zipstrel Fri 16-Nov-12 21:03:35

Cloggs, it looks like this board is a bit out of date! Come on ladies, let's get it going again smile

fishandlight Mon 26-Nov-12 18:55:35

Just namechanged for this from my usual MN name. I am a MN regular, have been for about 1 year.
Not sure if I like my new name on here or not.
I live in mid Cornwall.
Children nearly all grown.

absentmindeddoodles Tue 27-Nov-12 18:41:11

Nejifer Wed 05-Dec-12 14:09:33

BadRoly Wed 30-Jan-13 23:14:22

Another Falmouth resident here! Although this does feel a little like a ghost town... (The thread - not Falmouth)

I live in Penryn but am always in Falmouth - every morning at Gylly beach with dog, after taking children to school. I do Pilates on Fridays at the Core gym in Falmouth.....It is a bit of a ghost town. There are not many adverts, offers etc on this local mumsnet site - needs re-energising!!!! Great idea to have a place where you can share ideas, recipes, days out, advice etc....

BadRoly Fri 01-Feb-13 23:04:42

Oh you may have seen me and my friend going for a dip the other week then grin

Bluetit Mon 04-Feb-13 14:53:01

I live in out in the sticks, but always in Falmouth, usually at Gylly (and the cafe smile ). Would be great to re-energise this thread Chatterchandler, looks like there's some of us willing! Be nice to have a central place to come to find out what's going on locally. I've volunteered to be a Mumsnet Ambasssador for the local area, so you will probably see me posting a lot more on here in the future. If anyone else wants to be a local contact point I can pass on the contact details. Not sure what's involved at this early stage, but I'm thinking arranging meet ups, socials, whatever people want, really. Will let you know more as I find out.

And BadRoly, you are seriously brave going in the sea... saw the Boxing Day swim, that looked painful!

Bluetit Mon 04-Feb-13 15:05:22

If anyone is interested in joining the local Falmouth/Penryn group, the link above takes you to our local group meet up page - please leave your details and we can arrange a get together.

You can find this page from the Local site via 'Meet Ups', then 'Groups' - you will see (active) next to our page and the link will take you into the page.

Oh, and about me - I'm a 31 year old (was convinced I was 30 until I had to think about it..) SAHM with a 2yr boy, who is full of energy and loves a run on the beach...

BadRoly Mon 04-Feb-13 15:42:31

They were clearly overwhelmed with LA volunteers then as I offered too! grin Will head over later when I'm not on the phone smile

thekitchenfairy Wed 06-Feb-13 14:30:18

Am I the only Truro MNer then? Surely not...

Bluetit Thu 07-Feb-13 16:19:53

Bet your not, kitchen - I'm actually right in the middle of Truro and Falmouth, come and join us on the Falmouth board until the Truro one is up and running smile

JerseyLady Thu 07-Mar-13 11:12:54

<waves from Fowey>

Joining in from Fowey, persuaded in by the thread in chat. Happy St Piran's to you all.

This week I made pasties for the first time in a couple of years. My crimping was diabolical. Anyone got the crimp going well enough to tutor a poor cornish girl with inept fingers? I think my pastry wasn't stretchy enough which didn't help.

My top tip for pasty bits leftover by small children... Pasty Pizza! I think it may have been a world first but I'm ready to be corrected on that. Twas lush my birds!

extremepie Thu 28-Mar-13 00:05:41

Hello all!

Finally found the local bit, I'm reasonably new to Penwithick and could do with some friends : D

jadenash2013 Sun 31-Mar-13 17:17:10

hello everyone, Im new here Im from Liskeard in cornwall although shall be moving once we high enough up the list!

I live with my husband, son whos nearly 3 and we are expecting our daughter in May 2013 having a homebirth this time.

looking to make net friends and attend meet ups / or get together with other mums for coffee.

Cornygirl Fri 19-Apr-13 16:50:22

Does anyone know anyone who ever managed to get an au pair in Cornwall? We need some childcare with no 4 on the way and me being busier and busier with everything and an aupair is sooo much cheaper than childcare per hour.
If i can get my head around having someone in my spare room all the time it could be great, but I am just not sure an au pair would want to come to Cornwall - bit far from everything?

MrsGJB Wed 08-May-13 23:39:18

Bored - any older mums (near Bude) who fancy meeting up for a coffee - or younger mums who don't mind being seen with an old fogey with a stick (dodgy knee).

thekitchenfairy Mon 27-May-13 20:53:18

Right. I am going to organise a Truro Meet Up :-) this is is the first one for Truro... Anyone got any suggestions for an evening venue... Kaspar? Old Grammar School? I thin I probably need to put something on the meet ups page, so will rush off and look at that now!

nicole1605 Tue 28-May-13 08:50:11

Hi kitchen fairy. I have just moved to truro with my 2 year old son and have been on the phone to my old friends saying how I need to get out and meet people.could you please keep me up to date with the truro meet I would love to join you smile

Antidote Sun 08-Sep-13 11:34:03

Anybody out there????

We've just moved to Saltash. DS is nearly 3, DD is nearly a week!

Anyone fancy a meet-up?

Lottie403 Sun 08-Sep-13 23:19:49

Hiya anyone still about? I have a 5 year old and a 14 month old and live in Redruth smile

thekitchenfairy Wed 11-Sep-13 07:20:36

I totally messed up trying to do a Truro meet up guys... Summer was just too hot and for the first time in years we were all at the beach grin... I'm always up for getting out, so who is about?

Hi Lottie? Are you new to Cornwall? Has your eldest started school?

Has anyone checked out the new Truro bar? The Night Jar... No music so could be good for an evening meet up but maybe on the pricier side! And Pippas is reopening under a different name, different owners. Am quite excited <shows age and blushes so scuttles into corner with a cuppa and Woman's Weekly>

Have a good day everyone, hope this drizzle clears!
