Hi there,

We are looking for a reliable builder to work on a side return extension and internal remodel in our Victorian terrace.

We are ready to go and have planning permissions in place, but unfortunately the builder we were hoping to use couldn't wait for the permissions to come through and is now tied up. We want to start asap.

We live in Battersea/Clapham, but the big building companies are just way off our budget.

Anyone know a genuinely good, solid and reliable builder/company in the area with good prices?! It's a big job and we're happy for it to be used as advertising.

Thanks all!

Our initial builder took a bigger job 3 weeks before he was due to start and we found going to a project manager was the answer to getting back on track. It seems counter-intuitive as you have to pay the project manager but they got us lower quotes than we'd had elsewhere and then managed the whole process for us to keep the costs to what we expectes.. We used Clara Bee and they got us new quotes from builders they've used before who could keep to our original timetable.

I'm Judy wrapping up a complete terrace house remodel including loft and rear extension. I used Toppers LTD and couldn't be happier. It's a local father and son business. Honest, relatable, reasonable with connections to local trades and suppliers. You can contact them via their website at

Sorry, that meant to say 'I'm just' not 'I'm Judy.' I'm actually Terri smile

I had a fabulous builder too. Reliable, proactive, hard working, took pride in his work. Will forward the details if you're still looking, just PM me.

I'm doing some research on this too. I spotted a thread on a company called Build Team that you might want to check out.
Not sure if I am allowed to post the link but the title is
Buildteam - Clapham based company "Side return specialists" so you should probably find it if you search on that.
Anyone heard of them?

We're slightly biased as a consultancy company but we have worked on behalf of a number of different companies whom we would wholeheartedly recommend (PM us for a couple of companies), but would often recommend that you go with a consultant at the outset so that you don't get wedded to one builder as you progress through the process. Competitively tendering the work, or negotiating with a builder is often the best process.

Please feel free to contact us at if we can help in any way, we can also recommend some other consultants that we've worked with in the past so you can compare and contrast the quotes and services.
