Beanstalk is a children's literacy charity that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to work in primary schools with children who are struggling with their reading. We currently work in many parts of London, Kent, Birmingham and the West Midlands, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire, the North West and North East of England, with plans to start working in other areas in the coming years.

Our reading helpers work with three children each for a whole academic year, going into school twice a week for an hour and a half at a time (half an hour with each child, twice a week). They spend half an hour with each child, twice a week, giving the, one-to-one support to help them improve their reading and gain confidence. This is vitally important to give them the best chance in life - 70% of pupils permanently excluded from school have difficulties in basic literacy skills and there are clear links between illiteracy and unemployment, the criminal justice system and poverty.

We urgently need more volunteers to allow us to 'save the futures' of more children. If you can spare the time listed above and want a really rewarding volunteering experience that will transform the lives of children in your area, then please contact us for more information.
