The Stanley Spencer Gallery is a very special place for all generations of the family to enjoy. Devoted to the work of one of Britain's greatest painters, Sir Stanley Spencer, it was named by ArtFund this year in the UK's five most 'unmissable' small Art Galleries.
The Summer Exhibition, 'Paradise Regained' shows how World War 1 affected the Spencer's work. Some truly wonderful paintings on loan from the Tate are included. The Gallery provides interesting materials for children of all ages plus helpful and enjoyable audio visual material.
Images of paintings in the exhibition are:
- Neighbours 1936 Stanley Spencer Gallery, Barbara Karmel Bequest. (Voted one of the nation's favourite paintings in 2013).
- The Bridge 1920 ©Tate, London 2014.
- Unveiling Cookham War Memorial 1922 Private Collection
