Literacy Charity

Berkshire wide

We are a local registered charity that has been working with schools since 2004 to help raise literacy standards. If schools have pupils that have fallen behind with their reading or lack confidence then we can offer one to one reading support.
We recruit, train and support volunteers from your local community to act as an ABC reading helper. Schools allocate three children to work with each helper. They will spend 30 minutes with each child twice a week, reading, chatting and playing games. They focus on the child's successes and build the child's reading confidence using a range of general literacy resources provided by us. This undivided attention pays dividends with the child's progress. We have also expanded our services by being able to provide training to school's own parent helpers and parents of the community.
