The Stanley Spencer Gallery is a very special place for every member of the family. The Gallery is devoted to the work of one of Britain's greatest painters, Sir Stanley Spencer. This year's Summer Exhibition is crammed with glorious paintings of flowers, garden and landscapes.
Activity Sheets and Colouring are free for children. The audio guides are lovely for adults and teens, with lots of different voices, including Spencer himself. Kids are really responsive to Staney Spencer's work,as we constantly find with parties of school children.
Cookham, Spencer's ‘village in heaven', offers fine restaurants, heritage pubs and boutique shops. There are also beautiful riverside walks. Most particularly, for families, there is a 20 minute riverside walk to the eccentric and humorous 'Bounty' pub. The Bounty has a children's playground. Another lovely children's playground is located in the Jolly Farmer pub and there is also a play area in the historic Bel and the Dragon, just across the High Street from the Gallery.
