Carnival of the Animals

Let your imaginations run wild! Join acclaimed author-illustrator James Mayhew for a draw-along event with live music from Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals.

As professional musicians play music relating to each animal, James (who wrote the Katie art gallery books) will read a riddle and draw the animal live on stage - and the children (who are each given a pencil and sketchpad) can sketch along.

In a wonderful interactive event which brings music, art and creativity together, this Busy Parents Network festival takes place at the world-class Barber Institute of Fine Arts, on the University of Birmingham campus.

After the show, there's Animals in Art storytelling in the galleries, Make an Animal Mask activities with professional artists and a hunt for all the animals which appear in the Barber gallery's masterpieces.

Last year, this "Big Draw" event won the Get Creative Best Family Event for 2015. Busy Parents Network is a community social enterprise which organises imaginative family festivals including BookFest, Magical Lands and Enchanted Places and Bournville Scarecrow Festival.
