Serenity Birthing Suite

Smethwick and Oldbury

disabled access

The Serenity Midwifery Birth Centre has been designed to make mums feel comfortable and relaxed during labour.

It opened in 2010, and offers women a safe place to give birth if they are assessed as low-risk.

There are five ensuite birthing rooms – every room has facilities to provide women with a water birth if they choose to and double beds for resting after birth. There are birthing balls, mats and birthing stools, and aromatherapy available.

The centre was designed by consultant midwife Kathryn Gutteridge to create a calm environment. Medical kit is folded away out of sight, sensory lighting helps women feel at home. There are also facilities for fathers, and a private garden.

The Centre is located near to the delivery suite on City Hospital site but is not part of it, as it is solely midwife-led.
