Birmingham centre

This contemporary restaurant offers something very different, with subtle spicing and thoughtful reinvention of Indian classics.

It was named a few years ago by Gordon Ramsey as his favourite local restaurant (something Lasan isn't shy about mentioning on its website!) and chef Aktar Islam has achieved further success on the Great British Menu.

Examples include Tikki (Spinach, paneer & potato cake, pan fried yoghurt and mint pattie and tandoori roasted paneer served with salad, fresh carrot chutney and tamarind. £10.95); and Konkan Kekada (Soft shell crab dipped in a crispy ajwain and Kashmiri chilli batter with Devonshire crab, green pea and potato cake accompanied by cucumber raitha and sour raw mango chutney. £12.95).

Book ahead, it's understandably popular.
