Winslow Hall Opera 2013
In 2013, there will be six performances of Bizet's 'Carmen' between 25th July and 3rd August.
Carmen with its depictions of the life of normal people was highly controversial when it was first performed, now it is one of the most popular operas ever written. It is full of memorable melodies, brilliant orchestration and the sheer emotional impact of the music reflects the mood of the characters on stage to a stunning degree.
The role of Carmen will be sung by Yvonne Fontane, who is well known for her powerful portrayal of this doomed femme fatale.
A performance marquee is erected on the terrace to the rear of the Hall, which encloses the stage, orchestra and audience, whilst the gardens provide a stunning backdrop and double up as the perfect setting for patrons to relax and enjoy the summer evening with a picnic during the 90 minute interval.
