Godmanchester Nature Reserve

A rich mixture of flooded gravel pits, grassland, reedbed and willows host to a wealth of birds from teal to nightingales nestled beside the river in the Ouse Valley

This beautiful nature reserve consists of four lakes which are former gravel pits. The lakes are interspersed with grassland and ancient hedgerows which provide habitats for a myriad of bird species. Ducks and geese swim on the open water and gulls breed on the islands, kingfishers hunt in the streams and songbirds search the hedgerows for food.

In summer dragonflies dance along the margins of the lakes and butterflies soak up the sun. At the base of the hedges and out in the grassland wildflowers bloom attracting more nectar feeding invertebrates.
