How long will I have to stay in hospital?

This depends on how you and the baby are feeling. As a general rule:

Caesarean section: 1-3 days
Vaginal birth with no epidural: from 2hrs to overnight
Vaginal birth with epidural: 1-2 days
Instrumental birth (where forceps have been used): 1-2 days

However, if there is a clinical need for you or your baby to stay in hospital we will recommend that you stay. If you and your baby are well then you will be recommended to go home with community midwives and support staff continuing your care.

Community postnatal care
Following transfer home from hospital, your community midwife will visit the following day and will discuss and plan your care with you. The midwife will care for you until 10 days after the birth and, in some instances for a period beyond that time.

Times and prices are subject to change. Contact venue before setting out.
