Chelmsford is set within a quality environment full of charm and character and was awarded city status as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June 2012. In 2010 Chelmsford was named as the country's happiest place to live and with fantastic services, a huge range of leisure opportunities, excellent parks, and some of the best schools in the country, this came as no surprise to its residents.
The city and its surrounding areas offer many places to visit. Chelmsford Museum, situated in the Green-Flag winning Oaklands Park, has recently been extended and provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about the history of the Essex Regiment and the industrial heritage of the city. Hylands House is a stunning Grade II listed property set in 232 hectares of landscaped parkland all of which is open to the public. Hylands Park is also the setting for the V Festival, attracting approximately 180,000 people every year to the city.
Chelmsford also offers a wide range of shopping opportunities. The city centre layout is pedestrianised with two large shopping malls and a traditional High Street. There is also a thriving market tradition offering regular stalls selling a variety of products. John Lewis and Waitrose will also soon be joining the city!
There is a huge range of activities for children and families so please browse the local listings for further details and many more suggestions.
