In East Cheshire, around Knutsford, Wilmslow and star-studded Alderley Edge, you can browse baby boutiques and taste award-winning gastro treats. Visit glorious Tatton Park to see the deer.

Former mill town Macclesfield nestles below the rugged Peak District and has not one, but four museums about the silk trade, while thriving Congleton is surrounded by man-made lakes, offering thrilling watersports. The world-famous Jodrell Bank telescope reveals the mysteries of the universe. Not bad for a family afternoon out.

Near Northwich, in the heart of Cheshire, you can ride a remarkable boat lift. Steam south to Crewe to board a mini railway at the Heritage Centre – perfect for little train fans. Delve into the Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, near Nantwich, if you dare. Or enter the World Worm Charming Championships in Willaston. Cheshire has it all!
