Saffron is nestled in the heart of the restaurant quarter of Truro and has been a restaurant under head chef Nik Tinney for over 10 years.
Saffron is one of only two restaurants in Truro listed in the highly regarded guide to fine dining, the 2013 Trencherman's Guide.
Head Chef Nik Tinney has long been a champion of the joy of seasonal ingredients and, tucked away on one of Truro's quieter streets, this is not only a culinary hidden gem it is one of the best places to eat, or celebrate, as a family!
A recent refurb has changed the look of the restaurant considerably, but the food remains of the highest quality and the welcome warm, be it for a luxurious brunch, an early dinner or a larger family celebration.
Eldest son is quite the foodie and has enjoyed many a treat from the Young Diners Menu. Belly pork (his favourite) and penne with smoked haddock sit comfortably alongside the child menu staples of fish and chips and scrambled eggs that his brother prefers. Pastaholics need not be disappointed as this is also an option, but no less carefully prepared than items from the full menu.
We are nearing the time when eldest wishes to flex his tastebuds (and my wallet!) from the 'proper' menu so I think the early evening deals will be a good time for us to try this. But Saffron does not only cater for the discerning child diner, food-phobic youngest had his first public meal here when I knew he could be trusted in public, while I enjoyed an express menu lunch and a glass of wine.
I simply love this place, to eat with family or for a (rare) quiet night with my husband. Provenance is important to us and living where we do there is no reason to not support our local producers and growers and this is something that Saffron continues to champion, despite its change of ownership.
I know that 'local Cornish' means just that (not popped in a bag from the local co-op' and I know we will all enjoy our meal. The menu changes daily according to what produce is available and the joy of that surprise is one of the reasons we keep on coming back.
