Special Music Makers

Devon wide

Special Music Maker classes are designed for primary aged children with additional needs. Most of the children who come are on the Autistic Spectrum. The classes include listening, movement, Makaton signing, percussive instruments and lots of singing! I use PECs symbols throughout the lesson to communicate changes in activities. I use music as a way to practise turn taking, social communication and social interaction skills.

I was head of music in a primary school and now run music classes for babies and toddlers, as well as teaching the violin. I'm not a specialist additional needs teacher but, as a mum to a boy on the Autistic Spectrum, I understand the difficulties involved with finding suitable after school activities. Come and enjoy making music in a safe, relaxed environment. Meet other parents, make new friends and share stories!
