Braunton to Meeth, EX31 2AU
All year round
A walk and cycle path offering stunning scenery, created from an old railway line that follows the coast from Braunton to Bideford and then heads inland to Meeth. If you're children aren't great walkers, a great way for everyone to enjoy the the Tarka Trail is to hire bikes from Barnstaple rail station. Tarka Trail Hire (Station Rd, Sticklepath, Barnstaple, EX31 2AU, 01271 324 202, www.tarkabikes.co.uk) has tag-alongs, children's bikes and toddler/baby trailers to suit all family set-ups. Because the path is an old railway line, it's flat too! There's a lovely cafe at the old station building in Fremington Quay (http://local.mumsnet.com/devon/cafes/97784-fremington-quay-cafe) where you can have a pitstop, or there are lots of cafes at Bideford Quay.
