Familiar to everyone in the North East, Penshaw Monument can be seen for many miles around. The Earl of Durham's monument sits on the top of Penshaw Hill. The 70 foot high folly is a replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens.
You can take a tour to the top (pre-booking required). No persons under 1m tall are permitted to climb the monument. Safety equipment must be worn.
