The counties of East Lothian and Midlothian offer everything a family could want, whilst being only minutes from Scotland's capital city. In the 76 towns and villages there really is something for all the family.
With 40 miles of stunning coastline and award winning beaches, the East coast is the perfect place for a stroll to take in some breath-taking scenery. Alternatively, have a paddle and look for shells or crabs, watch the seals, or take part in one of the huge array of water sports on offer. In North Berwick you can visit the National Museum of Flight, The Scottish Seabird Centre, or take a boat trip to Bass Rock to see the puffins and gannets.
In Roslin, Midlothian you will find the Rosslyn Chapel, made famous by the Da Vinci Code, and with Roslin Glen nearby, it makes a fantastic day out. From the top of the Pentland Hills you can glimpse a sight of the Highlands. There are many walks through the hills to cater for all abilities, and it is also the home of Europe's longest artificial ski slope.
Whether you are looking to have a peaceful stroll and picnic in one of the many parks, take in a round of golf in some of the country's best courses, let the kids blow off steam in a soft play, or enjoy a lovely meal, you will always find something to do here.
