East Riding of Yorkshire
From rolling wolds to dramatic seascapes, with bustling market towns, pretty historic villages and glorious open skies, the East Riding of Yorkshire is a great place to raise a family. With relatively few people to the square mile, there is a real sense of space and freedom that harks back to simpler, unspoilt times.
Beverley's medieval streets offer a good mix of nice chains and smaller independent
shops – and a fantastic Saturday market - with an ever increasing range of restaurants and
cafes. Pocklington offers culture and commerce, with an independent arts centre, regular
street market, quirky shops and easy access to York. Driffield's chief claim to fame is its
agricultural show – massive cows, shiny tractors, fancy poultry and much more to see!
Driving out to the coast gives you the chance to enjoy some unspoilt seaside resorts – it
really is a bit like stepping back in time! Find kiss-me-quick hats, bright arcades and dignified
Georgian architecture in Bridlington: it's proper bucket and spade territory, still very popular
with summer holiday-makers. There are quieter resorts too – Hornsea is a favourite with
local families for its clean beaches & good facilities.
