Val Mager

I am a fine art printmaker and painter; printmaking inspires painting and painting often inspires the making of prints.

I use a range of printmaking techniques including collagraph, etching and aquatint, mezzotint and lino.

In contrast to the act of painting, printmaking is an upredictable process - I can never be quite sure who is in control - the technique and materials or my skill to control them.

Printing is an exciting process because of this accidental and unpredictable outcome. Each print as it is revealed on the press is always an act of discovery.

In the last year I have exhibited work locally in The Ferens Gallery in Hull, The Usher Gallery in Lincoln and The Ropewalk Gallery in Barton-on-Humber. I have also shown work nationally, in The Leicester Print Workshop Touring Print Exhibition, 'Small Print:Big Impression' and at The Royal Academy Summer Show last year.
