I work from life, for me painting and drawing are a dance, my hand and body responding to the object, landscape or person. My response is very visceral, and is very much about a sense of touch. I work fast, to block the controlled analytical response,to access my subconscious emotional response. I search for a simplicity, often removing or rubbing out as much as adding. Speed also gives rise to the unexpected, the suprising which keeps the work alive. I usually work standing, and like to work on a large scale, drawing is a very physical activity using the whole arm. I find working from life enables me to work more freely and abstractly. Oils are my favourite medium because of their sensuousness, and I love charcoal for it's drama and softness.
We are delighted to be able to welcome work from talented local artists to our woodland café space. We are available to host opening nights and to exhibit attractive visual art in our busy café. We have upwards of 15,000 visitors a year and have been told we are the best café on the 78-mile Capital Ring Walk! We are always looking for new artists who would like to exhibit their work in our cafe.
