Colourstrings is an integrated, child-based, Kodaly-based approach to music (using DO-RE-MI). In the Music Kindergarten (taught in age specific classes for children aged 6 months-6 years), all the basic concepts of music and inner hearing are taught with special songs, familiar nursery songs and rhymes, using percussion, playing games, dancing and listening.
In the years up to age three, a parent or carer attends with the child to assist in the activities. From 3 years, children attend alone. Two specially- trained teachers work together to develop the skills appropriate to this age group.
At 4-5 years, children are ready to learn 'solfa' - the DO-RE-MI aspect of Kodály and the average achievement by the end of the 5-6 year is at least equivalent to Key Stage 2 for 11 year olds.
Our aim is to encourage children with all they need to enjoy ‘music for life' - whether as performers or audience and later on, as parents themselves. Why not take a long –term view with us?
