5 years to Teenagers
Theatrix offers weekly classes in drama, acting, speech and musical theatre for groups, and tuition for individual and pairs of young students after school and on Saturday mornings, using the excellent facilities of the Abbey Theatre, St Albans. Tuition can start at any time.
We also specialise in auditions for Drama School and University degree entry, and many of our students go on to careers in the theatre, film and related professions.
We enter our students for Trinity Guildhall examinations with consistently excellent results.
Students have frequent opportunities to perform on the main and studio stages at the Abbey Theatre and other venues, which have included St Albans School's open-air amphitheatre.
We have been established for over 30 years and have a team of dynamic young professional actor/teachers.
Times and prices are subject to change. Contact venue before setting out.
Both my daughters have been Theatrix students for many years and along the way have had class, pairs and individual tuition from Rosemarie and her teachers. They have both found the Theatrix experience thoroughly enjoyable!
Initially my friend and I were looking for a drama class that wasn't just about putting on shows for parents and that offered a structured exam system. Theatrix filled the bill beautifully. The classes have been the highlight of the week for both of my girls, a place where they could make friends whilst also learning about acting and theatre production - and yes there were shows and plays along the way, but that wasn't the whole story. The Write to Act class ( taken as an extra course) was also a big bonus and not something that I think would have been available elsewhere. Over the years it has been great to see our kids engaging with some major material on occasion - which I am sure has helped them at school when tackling Shakespearean and other more challenging texts. Theatrix has the knack of gently easing the kids into the likes of Shakespeare, so they enjoy the stories and never develop a fear of the language.
Compared to some of the big drama franchises, Theatrix is a small school, but we have felt that to be an advantage - it is somehow more personal and accessible. There has been a real sense of the kids being more and more extended as they get older rather than having all ages fitting into the same framework as we found elsewhere.
We are also enormously grateful for the support and encouragement my elder daughter has had from Rosemarie and her teachers when applying for the National Youth Theatre and now more recently, Drama School.
All in all, thoroughly recommended!
