Islington is a vibrant, inner city borough known for its arts, culture and antiques – a varied and stimulating place for children to grow up, with its theatres and museums, garden squares filled with playgrounds and its own urban Freightliners farm.
A day out on your doorstep can range from swings in Highbury Fields, to a world-class art exhibition, to a puppet show at the intimate Little Angel Theatre, with countless cafes and restaurants to choose from along the way. Alternatively, take the kids for a swim in one of the borough's five pools, or a trampolining session at the Sobell Centre.
Landmarks include Saddlers Wells, one of the UK's leading dance houses; the magnificent Union Chapel, one of London's best live music venues; the antiques village of Camden Passage and the Victoria Miro art gallery, home to Chris Ofili, Grayson Perry and many more top artists.
Islington is also great for a wander: take in George Orwell's house in Canonbury Square, where he lived in 1945, or stroll along the Regents Canal to the London Canal Museum in Battlebridge Basin – once an ice warehouse – where you can learn about the history of London's canals and its ice and ice-cream trade.
Add to all this the concerts at Kings Place, the collection of modern Italian art at The Estorik Collection, the local galleries, topnotch shows at the Almeida, The Pleasance and The business Design Centre – not to mention the borough's boutiques, bars, traditional pubs, historic Clerkenwell and Exmouth Market – and it's easy to see why residents and visitors love this corner of the capital.
