We also provide a creche for younger siblings.

Presented in a fun and informative way, our Family Concerts feature music based on a theme and offer the chance for everyone to get involved by playing or singing along with the audience participation piece.

There are various exciting workshops in the Barbican foyers which take place during the morning of and just before each concert. These differ for each concert but you'll always get the opportunity to meet LSO players and take part in musical activities. Bring your instrument if you have one!

We also provide a crèche for use during the concert for younger siblings. Those with children under the age of 7 are encouraged to use the crèche, and must book places in advance.

Times and prices are subject to change. Contact venue before setting out.

    27-Apr-2015 Report

Yesterday, I took my 9 year old to the Dogs Don't Do Ballet LSO Family Concert and it was amazing.

The wonderful story was told through some simple images and animation on screen and by a very talented lady who narrated and acted, with the help of the audience and a few children who were invited onto the stage.

Well known pieces of music from Swan Lake, the Nutcracker, amongst others, were intwined into the story by the orchestra to enhance the storytelling and create the mood. All the children seemed to enjoy themselves (some as young as 5), and would have left not realising that they had learnt a lot about the music as well as the orchestra - names of the instruments, the role of the conductor, tempo and interpreting the mood of the music.

The children also really enjoyed the 1 audience participation piece, where you could either sing along, or bring along your own instrument to play with the orchestra.

Add to this the free half hour singing lesson before hand and arts and crafts activity, it really was a special afternoon out.

Definitely a great way to introduce classical music to kids.

I also have to say - we travelled from Finsbury Park and it is only 4 stops on the tube, around 20mins to the Barbican (with a quick change at KC). It's really easy to get to.
