The Taming of the Shrew

Kings Cross

Tower Theatre Company presents:

The Taming of The Shrew, by William Shakespeare
Directed by Penny Tuerk

All the young (and not so young) men in Verona are in love with Bianca, but her father won't allow any of them to woo her until her elder sister Katherina is married. However, no-one is prepared to take on Katherina's independent spirit and notoriously fiery temper until Petruchio arrives in town. He is willing to go to any lengths to secure a rich wife and his attempts to "tame the shrew" form the core of a play rich in traditional, sometimes farcical, comedy, which nevertheless poses some awkward questions about the roles of men and women in society. Questions brought nearer home by this production's setting in the rock'n'roll years of the 1950s when new ideas challenged pre-war values.
