The Thames "beach" is fairly quiet these days, compared to the past when its foreshore was very much in use as a city beach for Londoners. During the warmer months, it used to be so popular it was nicknamed London's Riviera, attracting an estimated 50,000 visitors in one bank holiday alone.

The Tower Foreshore, by Tower Bridge, was officially opened to the public in 1934 and there are still Tower Beach open days.

When the tide is low, join beachcombers and mud larkers, for a dig, sand-castle building, or just to catch a few rays next to the waters edge.

A great beach day out and it's on our doorstep!
