My lasting impression of Hempstead Valley's Bella Italia is one of friendly staff, good quality food and a lively, relaxed atmosphere.
When myself, husband Chris and three children visited recently we were warmly welcomed by staff, who interacted well with the kids and were flexible in our seating arrangements. The décor is modern and fun, filtering down to the general atmosphere in the restaurant. As well as the now standard colouring bits and bobs there is a static Vespa which can be clambered on and enjoyed by fidgety kids. Tiny things like this can make the difference between a stressful or relaxed family meal.
The menu offers a broader range of options than similar outlets and does genuinely seem more authentic. They also differentiate between younger and older children, offering different food and portion sizes for the latter. In a welcome move away from often-restrictive children's menus, Bella Italia also allows children the freedom to choose pizza or pasta from the adults menu, served up in appropriate quantities. The puddings are inventive and delicious and staff responsive to variations.
My only criticism of the menu is that there is no pricing or portion option for infants or toddlers who have moved on from baby food but unable to eat the quantities served to 2-6 year-olds (Piccolo option). This meant our one-year-old received the same portion size as our four-year-old which struck me as an unnecessary waste of both food and money. Food was also rather slow to arrive, which can cause problems for energetic children.
Overall I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends, suggesting perhaps that they bring some activities for young children in case service is slow.
