Clapham South Subterranean Shelter Tours


Journey 180 steps underground to explore one of eight eight Second World War deep-level shelters that exist across London. Opened to the public in July 1944, Clapham South deep-level shelter has over a mile of subterranean passageways that reveal the extraordinary stories of those who sheltered here, from Londoners seeking refuge during the Blitz, to hopeful Caribbean migrants arriving on the Empire Windrush, and even thrifty visitors to the Festival of Britain.

Age restrictions: Children under 16 years of age are not permitted onto the tours.

    Hello MissMitten and thanks very much for drawing this to my attention. I couldn't find any age information when I first listed this so this is useful to know. Apologies if you are disappointed! I hope it's of interest to those with older children - I try and list events that are of interest to a range of ages. Have a great day and thanks again!

    Hmm, under 16s not permitted on tours. Not quite what I was expecting to be recommended on Mumsnet Lambeth :-) Sounds awesome though.
