    03-Mar-2014 Report

This is the first hotel where I have found the reality is better than the website photos. The Dalmeny Hotel offers a Sunday brunch & swim from 11am-3pm choose any main course brunch item from the Patio Cafe Bar for just £10 per adult, children under 16 swim free just paying for food items ordered with a maximum of 2 children per paying adult.
Upon arrival we found there was plenty of free parking at the front of the hotel. The entrance was through the main hotel reception and access to the spa was explained by reception staff and was also signposted. At the Spa reception you are given cards for the offer. The website details modern changing facilities; we found the female changing rooms were spacious with several large cubicles; a playpen and a baby changing table with additional changing areas are situated by the £1 returnable coin lockers. All very clean and the space available reduces the stress of getting ready.
The pool was of a temperature where I didn't hesitate to get in; it was comfortably warm with gradual steps at the shallow end and ladder style at the deep end. There was a mix of ages, some people swimming lengths to one side and children playing to the other. There is a poolside family changing room and playpen and chairs. The layout is well thought out & caters for the needs of families with children of various ages.
The smaller pool provides a shallow area for toddlers to play in, this seemed very popular whilst we were there, the poolside temperature was warm enough to not stand and shiver after getting out as well. The hot tub can be used by over 12s; there is a steam room & sauna downstairs for over 16s.
The showers are well spaced out, you can easily fit your children in with you. I noticed the chatter from other parents wasn't stressed out like I have previously heard at pools and the children were excited - not fraught with the sound seeming more muffled than the previous echoic experience of family changing facilities. We had a slight issue opening the locker due to a lost key, another swimmer was quick to offer to go out to reception and the situation was soon rectified, the staff were helpful and friendly. The changing facilities also have a mirrored area with proper hairdryers with variable heat settings.
The brunch part is served in the Patio Café Bar which had a singer performing whilst we were there. You can choose from a wide variety including roast dinner, sandwiches, salads or selection of pancakes, waffles, muffins with fried egg, scrambled egg and bacon. There were additional choices on the board including a kids menu and I have to mention the delicious looking cake which I think I should have tested. Drinks are self-served from the machines, this was the only downside the hot chocolate was watery and disappointing and not in keeping with everything else. The tables are dressed with a table runner of paper with crayons provided, it was something different and we played noughts and crosses and drew masterpiece attempts whilst waiting for hot drinks to cool.
My children have already asked if we can go again. I don't think we have ever had such a relaxed swimming trip and I would happily return knowing the parts I have detested about family swimming, shivering cold, echoing noise are omitted here. With the cost of the brunch, children's meals and drinks it comes in at around £35 for lunch out & a family swim for 2 adults & 2 children.
