Terry O'Toole Theatre

The Terry O'Toole Theatre is a multifunctional performing arts venue. Its initial conception was, and remains, a collaboration between North Kesteven School (A Specialist School for the Performing Arts) Lincolnshire County Council and the North Kesteven District Council. The theatre is used by amateur and professional companies alike and, because of its flexible seating arrangements and state of the art technical equipment, has become a popular venue for many of the district's arts projects. The theatre is available for hire and has its own technical and administrative support team.

The theatre is named in memory of Terry O'Toole, formerly Headteacher and an unfailing supporter of the Arts.

    07-Apr-2014 Report

On Sat 15th March, my five year old son and I ventured to 'The a Terry O Toole Theatre' in North Hykeham, to see a small travelling production called 'The Bin Men'.

This clever, simple cast of only two men (three including Nigel the music man - as described by my son) told a story of the trials and tribulations of being 'bin men'. How life can be a bit mundane and how we need to take a fresh look on life sometimes.

'Don' feels fed up and tries to brighten his work life by recycling our waste in to tales of fantasy and hero's. At one point he dresses in tin foil and becomes a Knight. His life long colleague 'Sam' basically thinks he's 'lost the plot'.

With simple use of props and with music from 'Nigel' and his accordion they effectively display the importance of recycling.

Although there were times I did feel that maybe my son was going to loose interest, he still remained wrapped up in the scenario and it was an enjoyable hour.

The Terry O Toole theatre is a definite tick on the 'places to visit' list. Lovely small theatre, comfortable and welcoming, with friendly efficient staff. There is a super little cafe with home made cakes and light refreshments. All very reasonably priced, coffee £2, butterfly cake 50p. But, if you are visiting for the first time be aware, the theatre can easily be missed as it is set in the sports complex, behind the medical centre.
