The Edge Theatre and Arts Centre

Chorlton cum Hardy

Based in a former Sunday school in Chorlton South Manchester, The Edge is a little theatre with big aspirations. Launched in 2011 with award winning actors Julie Hesmondhalgh and Mark Rylance as its Patrons, the 70 seat venue is both a receiving and a producing house, with a particular interest in theatre for children, musical theatre and new writing.
At the Edge we are committed to developing new audiences and we run a comprehensive participatory programme alongside our professional theatre provision. The Edge also houses an established amateur theatre company and a range of ways for our local community to get involved in theatre and the arts.

    07-Mar-2015 Report

It was our first visit to The Edge and my son's first experience of a theatre play. I thought Handa's Surprise was a really lovely play and a great rendition of the story. The children were able to experience the various fruits and then watch the story unfold. The singing was really melodious and the animals moved in a very life-like manner - amazing considering they were not much more than a few bits of wood and fabric. The play's short duration was just right for their young public. A very enjoyable experience and I am keen to try other plays in the future.
