The Wheelhouse

Once Liberty's silk printing works, picturesque Merton Abbey Mills was reborn in 1989 as a popular free-market and visitor centre.

Standing on the banks of the Wandle, a river famous in the 19th century for its water power, it's most precious building is the early Victorian Wheelhouse, boasting a unique seven-spoke wheel in fine working order.

The Wheelhouse is not only a heritage museum but also the home to Stephen Llewellyn' s Craft Pottery which is open every weekend as part of the Merton Abbey Mills Market.
