Cragside is the former home of Lord Armstrong the Victorian inventor. The house was the first house to be lit using hydroelectricity, the first kitchen to have a dishwasher and is full of interesting gadgets designed by Lord Armstrong to make life easier.
The house provides a fascinating glimpse into Victorian life, but from the view point, of a modern thinking man.
There is plenty to see and do at Cragside, as well as the house, there are extensive gardens. Woodland paths leading you to lakes, tarns and waterfalls. There is a fantastic children's play park. Various Trim Trails in the woodland to encourage children to be active. There is a labyrinth waiting to be discovered, with more play equipment for children. There is a restaurant, shop, baby changing facilities, plenty of car parks and dogs are welcome in the grounds.
