The Great North Museum: Hancock, is a fantastic family day out. The museum is full of interesting objects and displays which cover Natural Sciences, Geology, Archaeology and World Cultures. They also host temporary exhibitions.
The ground floor level contains a large scale, interactive model of Hadrian's Wall. There are displays connected to the North East of England's history with the Romans. The museum covers many areas with displays on the Ancient Greeks, Ancient Egypt, complete with mummies and a replica T-Rex dinosaur.
The Hancock Museum was well known for its Victorian collection of taxidermically enhanced animals, birds and other beasties. The revamped Great North has incorporated these into their wonderful 'Living Planet' displays. There are plenty of hands on activities.
There is a lovely cafe and a gift shop.
