    17-Nov-2015 Report

Lots of changes have been made since we last stepped through the door of Bella Italia – the atmosphere and layout is more comfortable and welcoming, the menu has been hugely extended, and the quality and presentation of the food is much improved compared to a few years ago.

The children's menu is great – divided clearly into sections for younger diners aged 2-6 (£5.45), and those with larger appetites aged 7-11 (£7.95) – all very good value for 3 courses, and kids even get free drink refills. Breadsticks were on the table straight away for small people to nibble, plus a great activity sheet full of word searches, dot to dots and things to colour in. Two of our small people had tomato soup to start, and the other had cheesy garlic bread (which apparently was the nicest garlic bread EVER!)

All sorts are on offer for kids' mains including “Easy Peasy Macaroni Cheesy” with peas and ham; chicken strips and chunky chips, fish, or take your choice of pizza or pasta from the adult menu - “not quite an adult portion but almost is.” Ella's Kitchen baby food is available, and lots of high chairs close by if you need one.

The adult menu has a huge choice (we had to send the waitress away three times because we really couldn't decide) – dishes include sea bass fillets with salsa verde, lamb shank slow cooked in garlic, red wine and rosemary, and the delicious gnocchi with basil pesto, peppers, chicken and sun dried tomatoes which everyone wanted to try..

Our waitress was smiley, friendly and super helpful – we could not fault the service at all, although the other waiter who “greeted” us could do with taking some lessons from her – when we first arrived he neither smiled nor said hello, and when we told him we had a table booked he pointed vaguely across to the other side of the restaurant and then walked off.

The dessert menu is extensive - included in the kids' meals are several yummy treats such as Brownie sundae, or an enormous ice cream selection featuring all sorts of flavours from Bubble Gum to Honeycomb, then a choice of sauce AND what on earth to have on the top – popping candy? Crushed meringue? Candy Floss? And for adults who can't decide – try the dessert “shots” - a selection of 3 (or 5) italian creamy specials. A great choice for a family meal for people of all ages - we will definitely be going back!
