Warkworth Castle is a magnificent example of a fortress castle, as it towers above the surrounding area. The castle was once home to the very powerful Percy Family, who now reside at Alnwick Castle.
Its a fantastic castle to visit, with plenty of space for young children to run around and explore, while imagining they are Medieval soldiers protecting the castle.
English Heritage organise various events throughout the year and its a family friendly destination for a day out.
To visit the Hermitage, you need to walk along the river path, heading away from the castle and town, to the dock area for the rowing boat. Its about a 10-15 mins walk depending on children's legs! You are then rowed across the River Croquet to the other side and by following the pathway you will reach the hermitage hollowed out of the rocks.
