Aydon Castle

disabled access

Aydon Castle is set in beautiful, secluded Northumbrian woodland. It is a fine example of a 13th century English manor house. Unfortunately over the years it has suffered during the Anglo- Scottish wars.
Aydon Castle is a family friendly day out, with plenty of space to run about and explore. There were a few games set out in the grassed courtyard area for children and books about castles, in the manor house. Its a lovely place to visit, tranquil these days, with a picnic area in the orchard and flowerbeds nestled against the house, but with a history of troubled times, when you had to fortify your home against attack, to protect you and your family.
There is a small shop, which sells ice creams and also toilet facilities onsite. There is disabled access to the ground floor only.
