Northumberland offers picturesque countryside, mile upon mile of stunning sandy beaches, abundant wildlife, nature reserves and the Northumberland National Park. Northumberland is a beautiful place to live. It's a vibrant, culturally rich area, with a strong sense of identity. There is plenty to do and no shortage of restaurants, cafes, theatres and pubs throughout the area. Northumberlandia, the naked lady of Cramlington, doesn't appear to find it too cold up North!
Northumberland has had many visitors over the years. The Romans came over and built a wall across the Northumbrian landscape. Hadrian's famous wall has left us with a wonderful glimpse into Roman Britain. The museums are family-friendly, Vindolanda, Housesteads, Chester and Corbridge are just a few of the sites on Hadrian's Wall.
The Northumbrian landscape is well catered for castle wise. Alnwick Castle is famous for its Harry Potter connection and the wonderful Alnwick Gardens, with their very child-friendly water features, so don't forget to bring spare clothes for your children. Bamburgh Castle is dramatically positioned against the coastline. Chillingham Castle is known for its ghostly goings on and its famous cattle. Lindisfarne Castle is situated on the beautiful Holy Island and Warkworth Castle is a large impressive fortress, towering over the towns of Warkworth and Amble. Other local attractions in the area include Cragside, Wallington, Belsay Castle and Whitehouse Farm.
