    14-Oct-2015 Report

Central Library invited us to try some of their family workshop activities as part of a Nottingham Family Arts Network event in October 2015.

We gathered in the children's corner, decorated seasonally and with a colourful rug for children to sit on, to listen to a story. The librarian bound them immediately in her calm, engaging spell. Then, children divided themselves roughly by age to make either masks - butterflies and superheroes - or cartoon books. Both activities absorbed them. The mask-makers were impressed by a particularly lavish selection of stick-on ‘jewels', along with pom-poms, shapes, sparkly tinsel ‘antennae' and colouring implements. When it was time to go, books were ready and a little cluster of colourful butterflies were flapping around – ours continuing to do so for some hours afterwards. Well planned and equipped, this activity passed the ‘simple but effective' test with flying colours, almost literally.
