New Theatre Royal

Built in 1854, The New Theatre Royal is a Grade II listed Victorian Theatre and one of the last remaining Phipps-Matcham designed theatres still operating in the UK. The theatre has just been extended in partnership with the University of Portsmouth, to offer an expanded and renovated 700 seater theatre, a new studio space, a fly tower, enhanced disabled access and a new rehearsal and creative learning space dedicated to Sir Anthony Mighella CBE. The University of Portsmouth have also moved their Cultural and Creative Industries Department to the theatre, with media studios, film and video facilities and a studio theatre.

The Theatre will officially re-open in Autumn 2014.
